Me, As An Archetype

By Bren Ryder On · 2 Comments

This post is strictly for the sake of curiosity. My own, in exploring archetypes and others, in getting to know me a bit better.

I recently looked at a deck of archetypes from my favourite woo-woo store to see what I might consider to be ones that match my personality. I chose 8 cards that I felt resonated best with how I perceive myself and got feedback from a friend to confirm my findings. I don’t see these descriptions as permanent or stable or 100% accurate. They simply match me somewhat and represent a potential, potential “light” and potential “shadow”.

Here are the cards I chose and the descriptions of the corresponding Light and the Shadow aspects of the archetype (in no particular order).

Hermit:
Light – Seeks solitude to focus intently on inner life. Serves personal creativity.
Shadow – Withdraws from society out of fear or negative judgements of others. Refusing to help those in need.

Lover:
Light – Great passion and devotion. Unbridled appreciation of someone or something.
Shadow – Obsessive passion that harms others. Self-destructive devotion.

Seeker:
Light – Thirst for wisdom and truth wherever they are.
Shadow – Inability to commit to a path once found.

Servant:
Light – Delight in serving others with a free and loving heart.
Shadow – Using the lack of money as an excuse not to move forward with life.

Liberator:
Light – Freeing yourself and others from outmoded beliefs. Releasing negative thought patterns.
Shadow – Imposing your own tyranny over those you claim to liberate. Ignoring legitimate constraints.

Hedonist:
Light – Inspires creative energy to embrace the good things in life. Celebrates the beauty in yourself.
Shadow – Pursues pleasure to the detriment of health. Indulges at the expense of others.

Detective:
Light – Great powers of observation and intuition. Desire to seek out the truth.
Shadow – Voyeurism. Falsifying information.

Knight:
Light – Loyalty, romance and chivalry. A love of honour.
Shadow – Allegiance to a destructive ruler or principle. Romantic delusions.

There you go. That’s me – in the context of archetypes.
My apologies for not crediting the author of this deck. I don’t know it at the moment but I’ll see if I can find it out.

Interesting! Have you ever done the animal totem power animals whatevers? You’re supposed to draw the cards randomly instead of choosing them for yourself, but it’s okay because the universe or something is supposed to make sure you draw the right cards (you draw several, and each one covers a different thing), but still it’s a little disappointing when you end up with, say, the badger to represent the amount of peace you have in your life. Very woo woo, as you say, but they are interesting. I have a book on what each animal is supposed to represent to you, with both light and shadow bits, and really the book has been very interesting just to read through. Sometimes when a certain animal crosses my path over and over again (and not just a squirrel, but a not-regular animal) I’ll go look it up in the book and usually I read something that it just so happens I need to read.
