This chocolate cherry cake roll is spiked!! The base is a Russian chocolate sponge cake called biskvit. Use rum in lieu of vanilla extract for a cream that smells and tastes amazing. I think you’ll agree! Check out the video for step-by-step instructions and a taste test that my husband insisted I include :-O. There is a print-friendly version at the bottom of this post. Barley and Mushroom Soup Recipe
March 1, 2013This mushroom and barley soup is very soothing. Ladle it into your bowl, deeply inhale the warm steam, pull the spoon to your lips and savor. You’ll probably be smiling while you ruminate on the flavors. It was my comfort food all last week when I wasn’t feeling well. It’s really simple, healthy and delicious.
Green Beans and Mushrooms Recipe
February 28, 2013This is NOT just another green beans recipe. Adding soy sauce and sesame oil gives this dish a little Asian flare and the mushrooms… oh the mushrooms! While we are on that topic; this whole business of wiping mushrooms clean,… I can’t, I just cant! I think about all the people who might have touched [...]
Strawberry Jello Cake Recipe
February 24, 2013The strawberry jello filling sandwiched between the Russian biskvit cake layers is quite memorable and as my sister put it, “this is the stuff my dreams are made of;” that pretty much sums it up! You can easily make this cake your own by changing up the flavor of the jello and top with different berries. Laura K., [...]
Angel Hair with Lemon Shrimp Scampi Recipe
February 21, 2013This shrimp pasta makes for a super easy family meal, but it’s fancy enough for a nice dinner party. Pair it with the toast I posted yesterday, plus the green beans I’ll post soon (sorry for the tease) and you’ll have yourself a very impressive meal; making it look like you’ve slaved away for hours [...]
Horseradish and Green Onion Toast
February 20, 2013This horseradish and green onion spread is wonderful over Italian bread and sautéed until golden brown. The horseradish is nice and not overpowering as I thought it might be when my husband first introduced the idea to me; inspired by an old Martha Stewart magazine. If you’re not big on horseradish, you can substitute with some pressed [...]
Cheese Dumplings Recipe
February 17, 2013Traditional Ukrainian dumplings (aka Lazy Vareniki) are made with Tvorog; a homemade farmers cheese. This is an even lazier (I mean easier) version. The Ricotta cheese is inexpensive and simple, but I do have the recipe for farmers cheese posted.Well, here you have it. Enjoy!
Red Cabbage and Avocado Salad Recipe
February 14, 2013This red cabbage salad is easy, pretty and delicious. It’s not every day you eat something purple; so I got excited about this. Purple cabbage is so striking; with it’s dark outer leaves curling around a royal purple center… I stumbled upon this little gem on Instagram; posted by Tanya (@TMUR25). It sounded so simple and [...]
Valentines Giveaway from Trudeau: 3 Winners Announced!
