Happy Friday! I thought we could celebrate the arrival of the weekend with a little bubbly...
I received the following question from a reader named Joanna during last month's live chat:
Hi Michelle! What's a good hydrating toner that's like a base for moisturizers?
The answer? Champagne! Yes, seriously.
Champagne is a favorite toner of mine for its detoxifying properties and its ability to fight free radicals. It also contains a number of antioxidants thanks to the grapes used to make it. Additionally, the tartaric acid in champagne helps to lighten and even out skin's tone and texture. Here's what to do:
What you need: A small amount of champagne, a tiny dish and a cotton pad.
What to do: (Start with a clean face)
- Pour about a sip's amount of champagne into a tiny dish.
- Soak the cotton pad in the dish.
- Wipe the soaked cotton pad all over your face. It should feel incredibly light, cool and refreshing, and you can actually feel the bubbles fizzing! This is the champagne working its detoxifying magic. You'll be amazed by how much dirt and oil it wipes up.
This toner is great for normal to oily skin, but I wouldn't recommend it for super-dry skin types. While it does contain less alcohol than most store-bought toners and astringents, it is still probably not hydrating enough for very dry skin.
(This isn't the only beverage you can use on your face – click here to learn about what you can do with lemonade.)
What are some other ways to feel fancy during your beauty routine?
