Baldwin High School – Baldwin City, KS

Program: Mardi Gras Diversity Day

The Special Education department at Baldwin High School in Baldwin City, Kansas, has developed their own Promising Practice called Mardi Gras Diversity Day. It is a day full of activities involving the entire student body, faculty, and community members. Special education students from area high schools are invited to participate as well.

Alton Middle School – Alton, IL

Program: Bully Prevention Lunch

Alton Middle School in Alton, Illinois, wants their students to be aware of and know how to deal with bullying. One way they promote awareness is through a Promising Practices program called the Monthly Student-Led Bully Prevention Lunch. Each month, sixth-grade students are given the opportunity to participate in interactive discussions or activities that teach ways to prevent bullying, while at the same time promoting a safe and welcoming school environment.

This blog was written from my perspective as a Personal Fitness Trainer and a lifelong exerciser.  It provides very helpful and easy-to-understand tips on losing weight and getting into better shape.  My goal is to help those who struggle in one or both areas.  All of the information comes from a longer paper on the same subject which you can access through a link at the end of this posting.  So, with this brief backdrop, I am pleased and honored to share the following information that I believe will help you achieve your health and fitness goals.  More importantly, it will help improve your quality of life in countless ways.  I’ll start with Diet and then shift to Exercise.  Okay, the warm-up is over—let’s roll.

Program: F.R.O.G.S.

In an effort to promote character education at their school, Alcoa Elementary School in Alcoa, Tennessee, has implemented a Promising Practices program called F.R.O.G.S. (Fathers Representing Our Great Students). Dads, grandfathers, uncles, step-dads, big brothers, etc., are encouraged to volunteer at their child’s school at least once a year.
