Welcome back to MoLI. Our exhibition of ten interactive chairs illuminates the genre beyond its familiar archetypes of rocking chairs, video arcade games and ejector seats. Once again we are grateful to a group studying Interactive Media Design who, informed by meticulous research and archive film, lovingly restored each chair to working order.

It is interesting to note that none of the creators of these curious chairs were known as 'Interaction Designers' in their own time. Some trained in the professions of 'Musical Chairwright' and 'Mystical Cabinet Maker', although many more were amateurs as you will learn.

Nonetheless, in an age of ubiquitous mobile devices, the scale and magic of their work continues to inspire tomorrow's interaction designers. For those of you who are unable to travel to Dundee and experience the chairs yourselves, we hope that this online material is also inspiring.
