Our latest roundup of things that win at the internet, including nineties nostalgia, crazy fan theories and the best/worst excuse since the dog ate my homework.

In no particular order, here is our selection of things that got us going and ruined office productivity this fortnight. Enjoy!

1.       Push the red button for drama

The second instalment of movie channel TNT’s ‘push the red button for drama’ flash mob ad.  Watch out for Elvis with a hand gun and a particularly rotund streaker.

2.       Apps for apes

The charity Orangutan Outreach is aiming to improve the quality of life of orangutans living in captivity… by giving them ipads. That’s right. According to the people at Orangutan Outreach, the orang-utans ‘will have access to music, musical instruments, cognitive games, art, painting, drawing, photos and videos’.  That sounds nice.
However, among other things ‘they will be able to see photos and videos of other orangutans.’   Oo-er.

3.       Sundance films available on Youtube

For the first time ever, mere mortals all around the world will have the privilege of experiencing the Sundance Film Festival from the comfort of their own homes. The benevolent folk at the Sundance Film Festival have made the twelve finalists’ short films available to watch on YouTube.

4.       Child of the nineties

An ode to the nineties that cleverly ties in our nostalgia for its pop culture and the birth of internet explorer.

5.       The Replacer

Ever wished you could be in two places at once? The Replacer is a man committed to making this dream a reality for anyone with a penchant for Call of Duty Black Ops 2.
The Replacer will heroically spare you from life’s trivialities, such as witnessing the birth of your child or assembling flat-pack furniture, leaving you free to develop severely arthritic thumbs and sever all meaningful human relationships, barring those cultivated through the online mode of the game. Enjoy.

6.       Microsoft’s youngest technician

Whilst most other children his age are still trying to learn their times tables, nine year old Pranav Kalyan has earned the title of youngest Microsoft technician. Pranav coolly shows off his multitasking abilities by playing a bit of football with his buddies whilst being interviewed for CBS.

7.       Crazy fan theories

Fan theories can range from the mind-blowingly insightful to the wacky and paranoid. Here is an amusing collection of both.  My personal favourite is the interpretation of Pacman as a critique of 1970s class divisions.

8.       School boy who faked kidnapping

Even if you’re really worried about what your teachers will say about you on parents evening, you probably shouldn’t fake your own kidnapping to get out of it. This is an especially bad idea (as one Spanish schoolboy discovered) if your dad is a police officer.

9.       Lion King 3D

You may have paid ten quid to see the latest box office hit in 3D, but I can guarantee you’ve never seen anything like this.

10.     Tom Fletcher’s wedding song

This Youtube offering from McFly’s Tom Fletcher was carefully added in at tenth place to avoid serious street cred damage/lynching. Whatever you think of the band, you can’t deny that this is a pretty impressive wedding speech.
