Major Weekend Track Work

Metro continues its accelerated effort to improve safety and reliability. In order to impact fewer customers, we sometimes use an approach to major weekend track work that involves temporarily closing individual stations or groups of stations and replacing trains with free shuttle buses. This approach allows Metro to complete rebuilding work faster and safer, while allowing trains outside of the work zones to operate with fewer delays.

During major track work, Metro employees and contractors work on multiple projects at the same time. Examples include:

  • NTSB-recommended track circuit replacements
  • Replacement of track ties
  • Switch replacement or improvements
  • Rail and fastener replacement and joint elimination for a smoother ride
  • Third-rail repairs and upgrades
  • Water and leak mitigation
  • Station platform reconstruction
  • Radio and cellular communication improvements
  • Rail facility upgrades
  • Station cleaning

While there will be delays and inconvenience associated with the critical work we're undertaking, please be assured that we will take all possible steps to minimize your inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding as we work to rebuild Metro.

NOTE: Every effort will be made to adhere to the schedule below. However, changes may be necessary due to weather, construction delays and other factors outside our control. This page will be updated as necessary.
