Contact Us Directions to MBL

spacer The Brown-MBL Partnership and Graduate Program in Biological and Environmental Sciences unites the MBL’s and Brown University’s combined research and education expertise in biology, environmental sciences and biomedical research and offers talented graduate students the chance to work collaboratively on projects with scientists at both institutions.

Students craft individual programs with both MBL and Brown mentors and often spend part of their time conducting research in MBL laboratories in Woods Hole or at MBL field sites in such places as Alaska, Antarctica or the Amazon.

Students participate in a variety of MBL Centers and/or Brown Departments.

Applications should be directed to Brown Departments after consultation with both Brown and MBL faculty.

The MBL is a leading international, independent, nonprofit institution dedicated to discovery and to improving the human condition through creative research and education in the biological, biomedical and environmental sciences. Founded in 1888 as the Marine Biological Laboratory, the MBL is the oldest private marine laboratory in the Americas.

The mission of Brown University is to serve the community, the nation, and the world by discovering, communicating, and preserving knowledge and understanding in a spirit of free inquiry, and by educating and preparing students to discharge the offices of life with usefulness and reputation. We do this through a partnership of students and teachers in a unified community known as a university-college.
