Comments in Physical Review D
The Comments section is solely for Comments on papers by other authors previously published in Physical Review D.
The reviewing procedure for Comments which criticize others’ work is usually as follows:
- The paper is first sent to the authors whose work is being criticized. These authors may recommend that the paper be accepted, be accepted after revision, or be rejected. They may or may not want to publish a Reply to the Comment, although if they recommend rejection of the paper they usually want to reply if the paper is subsequently accepted.
- If the issues in question cannot be resolved among the authors of the Comment and the authors of the work being criticized, the editor may request a third party to arbitrate. If the third party recommends acceptance of the paper, then the authors whose work is being commented on are given the opportunity to write a Reply for possible simultaneous publication. The Reply will be reviewed also (usually done by the third party).
- After the Comment and Reply have been accepted for publication, the author of the Comment is sent a copy of the Reply for his information, but he must not alter the text of his paper in proof. The Comment and Reply are published in the same issue, the Reply immediately following the Comment.
