International Partnerships
IUPUI's program promoting international outreach through building strong, lasting academic affiliation arrangements with universities around the world was the recipient of the 2009 Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education and the 2011 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization.
Former IUPUI Associate Vice Chancellor Susan Sutton's vision for strategic partnerships is outlined in "Partnerships as a Driving Force in Campus Internationalization."
Through the involvement of its staff, students, and faculty, IUPUI has linkages with partner institutions in over 70 countries worldwide. Existing affiliation agreements are compiled in the university-wide Register of International Affiliations, which can be viewed on the web at webdb.iu.edu/InternationalPrograms/scripts/ria/registerhome3.cfm
Establishing New Partnerships and Affiliations
Initiation and promotion of new agreements by schools, faculty members, and administrators is encouraged and supported. The Office of International Affairs has staff members who look forward to meeting with you to discuss any questions that might arise. Faculty wishing to get involved in our partnerships in China, Kenya, and Mexico should contact Ian McIntosh, Director of International Partnerships at IUPUI at imcintos@iupui.edu or 317-274-3776.
Kenya
The first and foremost of these partnerships is with Moi University, Kenya, which builds on the 20-year collaboration between the IU and Moi University Schools of Medicine.
China
The hub of IUPUI's partnership with Sun Yat-sen University, China, is the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, which promotes the study of Chinese language and culture in Central Indiana and promotes ties of friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and China.
Mexico
The IUPUI-Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo partnership in Mexico builds on the decade-long collaboration between the IU Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dentistry in the village of Calnali, Mexico. The centerpiece of the new, expanding collaboration is the Binational Cross-Cultural Health Enhancement Center, a Signature Center at IUPUI.
