Welcome to The Zelda Project
The Zelda Project is a Los Angeles, CA based group of fans who seek to bring to life the characters, settings, and overall feel of Ocarina of Time through photography and film.
A labor of love, this project combines all aspects of art from costuming & photography to CGI visual effects. Our end goal is that we hope those of you who view our work are brought a little bit more into the world of Hyrule through our art.
Link Rides Epona Into the Sunset

Written by Adella Created on Wednesday, 24 October 2012 19:16
Spending time at the ranch was always a welcome distraction from reality. However, he had a duty to find the Princess and liberate the people of Hyrule. As the sun dipped below the mountains, Link lead Epona away with heavy heart, his sights set on Death Mountain.
This photo was meant to be the last in the set, but unfortunately the final two that were supposed to go before this one are not ready. I didn't want to be late again for you guys, so I just posted this. Sorry they're out of order guys. :) Expect to see more Link riding Epona in future shoots!
The background is a beautiful digital matte painting by Mickael Forrett. Also, to answer the popular question about horse makeup: We painted Big John's legs and tail and ears to have black on them because his coloration wasn't like that. We used horse show touch-up which many people use in horse shows to hide things like scars and imperfections on their horses. :D Think of it kinda like spray in hair color for humans, but it's made for horses.

Our ultimate goal is to create the characters as they would appear in reality to the best of our abilities, placing them in beautiful sceneries true to their Hyrulean counterparts, and creating elaborate photosets, as well as a film short (coming soon! Stay tuned for our Kickstarter project!).

This cosplay photo was a huge combined group effort that was a labor of love by friends and fans of the Legend of Zelda series. Combining all aspects of art from photography to matte painting, we wanted to bring the Legend of Zelda to life as best we could in a final presentation. So far this has been incredibly rewarding, and we hope that those of you who view our work are brought a little bit more into the world of Hyrule through our art.
A special thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far! Without all of your support and kindness we wouldn't have been able to make this happen. We only hope that with what we produce, a smile is put on your face!
Malon Singing

Written by Adella Created on Friday, 19 October 2012 18:49
It was rare that Malon had the time to ride anymore, but with Mr. Ingo back to normal, she was able to break away. Out here, she could truly feel free. With her steed wandering a few feet away, she began to pick her way through the flowers. It wasn't long before a song found its way out of her. This was the best place to sing, because here she could be anything she imagined. The wind picked up, unsettling the grass and carrying her melody far across the field.

The skirt, blouse, and scarf are all 100% linen of varying weaves and thicknesses. The costume has been distressed to show wear and tear, assuming that Malon would get dirty if she was working on the ranch all day! The background is a beautiful digital matte painting by Mickael Forrett.
I really wanted this one to be a nighttime picture. Several of us tried with it, but the lighting on the original picture just wasn't fit for Date-To-Night conversion. Night photography was not an option, since we did not have the location available at night. So we had to settle for a daytime joyride, which I think is just as nice! Hope you guys like it!

Death Mountain CLOSE UP
-
Written by Adella Created on Friday, 12 October 2012 01:16
Hey Guys! As I promised in the photo of Link and Malon overlooking Death Mountain, I am posting the detail shot. In the photo description, I included that there were two easter eggs in the painting if you knew your Hyrulean Topography!
1. Kakariko Village - While far away, some commenters were successfully able to locate it. Due to the low resolution of the photo, it wasn't easy, but if you were able to see this you successfully found the village! Now for fun, look a little closer and you can see the bridge over the river, the area where you will run up the stairs that are cut into the mountain that lead up to the village, and finally the death mountain trail running out of the village!
2. Zora's falls - On the right near Malon's fingers, you can see Zora's falls, and the area where the hidden doorway to the Zora's Domain should be!
3. There was actually a third easter egg, however only a few people noticed this! It was really fun to see if anyone noticed it You can see that the Great Deku Tree grove is within the massive forest to the south east!
Hope you guys enjoy this little zoomed-in snippet of Mickael Forrett's matte painting! It was a true pleasure to collaborate and plot these little teeny visual treats for you guys!
Love, Sarah
Link and Malon Observe Death Mountain
-
Written by Adella Created on Wednesday, 10 October 2012 18:09
From where they stood on the edge of the Lon Lon Plateau, they could see the vast rolling hills of Hyrule field, and the distant Kakariko mountain range. Malon gasped when she saw where he was pointing. She couldn't imagine even scaling a mountain that tall, let alone a volcano that had been precariously active for years. When her father returned from Kakariko, he had mentioned that the locals were convinced it would erupt any day now. Yet Link intended to climb to its summit, and descend inside of it!
The concept of Link pointing out where he would go next to Malon... the summit of Death Mountain... was something I was so excited to do. It was a heavy task for Mickael to undertake, but when he was finished the result was breathtaking. It's very hard to depict the ring of cloud that circulates around the top of Death Mountain, but I think he achieved the realism quite well. We spent weeks looking at clouds and examples of how they could appear in strange shapes in reality before we settled upon this. I hope you guys love it!
NOTE: There are two easter eggs in this pic. Can you find Zora's falls and Kakariko village?!

Link Malon and Epona

Malon caught the direction of his gaze as she lead Epona out to the pasture. "No Link..." She warned with a smirk, remembering his fondness for harassing the cuccos. They remembered him too, as one of them raised her head to warily observe the hero.

Oh man. You know you've done it! Everyone's done it! Harassed that group of cuccos at Lon Lon Ranch and then jumped onto Epona's back and rode around in circles while they chase you but can't catch you. So funny. I had to put something like this in because it's too great to pass up.
