RISING STARS JHONATAN “MOMO” ROMERO & EFRAIN ESQUIVIAS PUT IT ALL ON THE LINE THIS FRIDAY AT CHUMASH CASINO AND LIVE ON SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION
Orange, CA (September 19)

This Friday, September 21, Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions will bring the California boxing fans another exciting night of professional boxing from the Chumash Resort Casino, in Santa Ynez, CA.

The main event will pit undefeated Colombian King, Jhonatan “Momo” Romero (21-0, 12 KOs), against Thompson Boxing stable mate Efrain Esquivias Jr. (16-1, 9 KOs) from Carson, California, in what should be a no-holds-bar 12-round war for the Voluntary #2 position on the IBF junior featherweight division. The bout will headline a new broadcast of the famed ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

“Esquivias is a very good fighter. He’s very strong. I’ve studied videos on him and I know not to take him lightly,” said the highly rated Romero (#5 IBF, #10 WBA, #5 WBO) from Santa Fe Springs, CA, where he has been training for the past 7 weeks. “It’s going to be a tough fight for me and there is a lot of motivation knowing that we are vying for the #2 IBF position. I know that if I win this fight it will bring me one step closer to a world title and accomplishing my dream. I am confident that I will win because I have prepared well and worked on getting in great shape for 12 rounds. I am ready for anything. If Esquivias wants to dance – we will dance, if he wants to trade – it will be bombs away.”

Esquivias, who suffered his first professional loss by a hairline majority decision to Rico Ramos (20-1, 11 KOs) this past June, has vengeance on his mind. “I am looking to avenge that loss and make Romero pay for it, I’m ready to get back in the ring and I am glad that I am being matched against a viable opponent,” said Esquivias who is known for his relentless boxing style. “I am a tough fighter and I need to be matched up against someone who will make it a competitive fight. I don’t need to rebuild momentum because I don’t feel that I ever lost the fire in the first place. I have learned a lot from my battle against Ramos and losing comes with the territory. Now I am picking up where I left off and you can bet that I am going to make it a fight, I am sorry Romero has to pay for the broken glasses!”

Tickets for the LIVE boxing show at Chumash Casino Resort are priced at $35, $45, $55, $70 and $85 are available now and may be purchased by calling 800-585-3737 or visiting www.startickets.com/event.php?event=3147. Doors open at 5:00pm and the first fight begins at 5:30pm. Televised portion begins at 8:00pm PT.
