Astrophysics

Grade 7: 29,541 - 36,298 p.a.

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research assistant to work on supernovae and other aspects of time-domain astronomy with the European Space Agencys Euclid mission. The position is funded by the U.K. Space Agency. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out research in the analysis of time-domain data, including study of techniques and algorithm development for analysis of supernova data for cosmology, working with Professor Isobel Hook.

The successful candidate will have or be about to receive a PhD and should have experience in analysis of astronomical images, preferably with some experience in the analysis of time-varying astronomical sources. An interest in cosmological analysis using distant supernovae would be an advantage. The work will be carried out in collaboration with members of the Euclid consortium across the U.K. and in other countries. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated capacity for independent work and be capable of initiating research in a lively group.

Salary will be within the range 29,541 - 36,298 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. A benefits package and a research budget for travel and other expenses will be provided
