A hot restaurant with an Italian market to boot

Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is following in the footsteps of its beloved sister property around the corner, il Buco, by bringing a piece of Italy to Manhattan’s NoHo neighborhood. But while dining is the main event at the original restaurant, it’s just part of the magic at the new outpost. The Vineria serves up rustic Italian dishes, while owner Donna Lennard’s newest endeavor, the Alimentari, allows patrons to bring the experience home. The market carries all the delectable imports one can imagine: marmalades from Liguria; anchovies, honey, and capers from Sicily; grains and olive oil from Umbria; and cave-aged pecorino cheese from Emilia Romagna. (And that’s to say nothing of enticing basics, such as homemade pasta, cured meats, and gelato.) The warm space features benches, shelving, and tables of reclaimed wood from the space’s previous tenant, Great Jones Lumber Supply, as well as original graffiti on the brick walls and a stamped-copper ceiling. Antique ceramic jugs and street lamps from various towns in Italy mingle with a Carrara-marble bar and steel tables.
