Yay for surgery being over and done with, and me not being in too much pain - although walking is quite a hassle! Sleep has taken over my life, but I'm finally feeling up to tackling all the good books - both print and audio - I got from the library when I foolishly thought I would have surgery and be up to reading in a matter of hours!

Weekend Audiobook Audible With Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Recently Finished

spacer Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Laini Taylor. Narrated by Khristine Hvam. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages - not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

This was a 5-star book all the way. Loved the story - the plot, the depth of the characters, the setting, the vivid imagery of Prague, the romance ... although I will say I thought it was a wee bit too much for me towards the end ... but overall, this is a beautiful story that's brilliantly written. And sure to be one of the most memorable books I read this year. (Amazonspacer | Goodreads)

spacer The Replacement, Brenna Yovanoff Narrated by: Kevin T. Collins Still working on this one - a week later! Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world. I've got Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card already waiting in the wings next.

Hope you recover quickly! I've had The Replacement in mind but haven't picked it up yet. It looks good though.

I've heard really good things about this audio. I believe it is going to be one of the free downloads this summer, I can't wait!

@Jen - that would be so awesome if this were a free download - I forgot to mention the accents that the narrator did - and how it brought the characters to life. I think this will be one of my favorite books this year.

I've heard Smoke & Bone is an awesome audio read. I read it in print and fell in love with the book. I practically devoured it. I was considering getting it on audible for a re-read at some point. I just recently bought The Replacement but haven't had a chance to read it yet...the reviews I've read have been mixed. (I tend to LOVE mixed reviews because they make me want to read and make my OWN opinions. They kind of light a fire under my rear end to read something for myself, so to speak.)

Thanks for stopping by my blog this week! I loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone as well, and I can't wait to read the next book. She's such a beautiful writer that I felt like the story went by really quickly, even though it's actually quite a long book!

Thanks for including your Smoke & Bone review on the European Reading Challenge. I think it is the first Czech book on the list.

I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone last year and absolutely loved it (well, like you I did tail off towards the end a little - not sure why, don't think I was too enamoured with the romance). It's a compelling read and Laini Taylor is a great storyteller.

I had this in my Maybe column when I was last buying audiobooks; now I'll have to shift it into the cart!
