Artists Talk: Thursday, February 7th, 3:30pm, Humanities Room 312, Reception to follow at 4:30pm

A new exhibition featuring four artists who use collage in their art making practice. From large scale abstract work to intimate narratives of disparate images, each artist explores the collage process of utilizing existing objects that are collected, taken out of context, and then reconfigured into new relationships.

Exhibition on view January 10- February 7. There will be an artist's talk and closing reception on Thursday Feb 7 beginning at 3:30pm in Humanities room 312. The reception will follow at 4:40pm in the Bobick Gallery, located on the first floor of the Humanities Building on the UWG campus.

About the Artists:

Daniel Biddy is a graduate of the Atlanta College of Art and has had solo shows with Barbara Archer & Vaknin Galleries, was a top 15 Artadia Finalist, been featured in the Atlantan Magazine 2011 Arts & Power issue, participated in a multitude of group and specialty shows, and is found in many private collections. His work will next be featured in an upcoming exhibition curated by Hope Cohn for Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport showcasing the work of several of Atlanta's best contemporary artists.

Jennifer Cawley received her BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991 and has studied at Newcastle University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and the Maine College of Art in Portland. She is currently pursuing a MFA in painting at SCAD-Atlanta. Her mixed media encaustic paintings were recently on view at Emily Amy Gallery and you can read more about the artist's work in Creative Loafing and ArtsATL.

Brian Dettmer is originally from Chicago and currently lives in Atlanta. In recent years Dettmer has established himself as one of the leading International contemporary artists working with the book today. In 2011 his work was featured on the cover of Book Art (Gestalten Publishers, Berlin) and his solo exhibition, Elemental was on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia from Oct- January. His work is also scheduled to be in several group shows including "40 under 40" at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute. His work has been exhibited Internationally in several galleries, museums and art centers and his work can be found in many public and private collections throughout the U.S, Latin America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Dettmer's work has gained International acclaim through internet bloggers, and traditional media. His work has been featured on the CBS Evening News, The New York Times (US), The Los Angeles Times (US), The Guardian (UK), The Telegraph (UK) Chicago Tribune (US), The Age (AU), Art News, Modern Painters, Wired, The Village Voice, Harper's, Esquire and National Public Radio among others. He is currently represented by Kinz + Tillou (New York), Packer Schopf (Chicago), MiTO (Barcelona), Toomey Tourell (San Francisco) and Saltworks (Atlanta).

Dayna Thacker is an artist and designer living in Atlanta, GA. She received her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Thacker served as creator, curator, and manager of the critically acclaimed Gallery Stokes in Atlanta from 2007-2010. She has had several recent solo exhibition including The Weight of Attachment at The Fire House Gallery in Louisville, GA, Pivots of Moment & the Structure of Accumulation at Barbara Archer Gallery and Everyday Mythologies at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Thacker is currently a Studio Artist of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and is represented by Barbara Archer Gallery.

Gallery Information

The Bobick Gallery, located on the first floor of the Humanities Building is the Department of Art's primary exhibition space. Exhibitions change monthly and the gallery is open Monday- Friday 9am-4pm. Closed weekends and school holidays. The gallery and events are free and open to the public.

The Bobick Gallery is named in honor of former chair and professor emeritus Bruce Bobick. Bruce served as chairmain of the department for 26 years until he retired in 2005. His website is www.brucebobick.com.
