Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why?
A1: “Alcohol.” – @sfoskett

Q2: This is a joke, right?
A2: “Absolutely not.” – @plankers, “No way.” – @sfoskett

Q3: Is there a user group?
A3: Heck yes, follow @FCoTRUserGroup on Twitter or ask Daniel Bowers (@DanielatHP) about it when you see him.

Q4: Hey, who has the buttons?
A4: That’s Stephen Foskett, hunt him down.

Q5: Hey, who has the t-shirts?
A5: That’d be Julia “Ethernet is just a Fad” Weatherby (@juliaweatherby) and Jay Weinshenker (@aus_effendi). Get your own!

Q6: Where can I catch a tutorial on this brave new technology?
A6: Presentations are routinely made at conferences like Storage Decisions, InterOp, and SNW by Howard Marks (@deepstoragenet) and Stephen Foskett (@sfoskett). The occasional presentation has also been made by Bob Plankers (@plankers) for VMUGs.

Q7: How did this start?
A7: Sleep-deprived, caffeine-addled comments at Tech Field Day 3 by Ethan Banks (@ecbanks, packetpushers.net/). FCoTR historians think those comments were intended originally along the “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” line of thinking, but that’s just silly.

Q8: Do you have a standards body that meets?
A8: We’re working on it.

Q9: Have any vendors announced support for this technology?
A9: Many have it on their roadmaps, but there are very few forthcoming implementations. It’s our goal to ask every single vendor about it.

Q10: Who is the “Church of the Rock?”
A10: They were using #FCoTR before we commandeered it. Sorry guys, but with one post per month we didn’t know you were there.

Q11: Didn’t you guys have a Wikipedia entry?
A11: We’re still bitter about that.

Q12: How do I get involved?
A12: Just do something, and let us know. spacer
