Venice

A city of art: every corner and street in Venice exudes history, beauty and culture.

The city was transformed over the centuries by its rich merchants, illuminated patrons who commissioned the building of extraordinary palaces, churches and great schools, together with furnishings, frescoes and canvases. The Lagoon city can be divided into districts known as "sestieri".

The heart of the city is St. Mark’s, with its splendid square and basilica. The most important things to see are St. Mark’s bell tower, the Ducal Palace, the Church of Chiesa di Santo Stefano, the Torre dell'Orologio, the Correr Museum, Palazzo Fortuny and Palazzo Grassi.

In the Santa Croce district, you can visit important churches, like S. Simeone Profeta, Sant'Andrea della Dirada, the old Church of San Giacomo dall'Orio and the Fontego dei Turchi.

The San Polo district has the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Cà Foscari, the Rialto Bridge, Goldoni’s House, Palazzo Albrizzi, Palazzo Mocenigo, Cà Corner and the Church of San Rocco.

In the Dorsoduro district it is worth visiting the Basilica della Salute, Longhena’s architectural masterpiece, Cà Rezzonico and the Academy Galleries.

In the Castello district, as well as the Venice Arsenale and the historic naval museum, the Basilica of the Santissimi Giovanni e Paolo and the Biennale Gardens, current home of the international art, Biennale, are well worth a visit.

In Cannaregio you can visit Palazzo della Cà d'oro, the Ponte delle Guglie, the Chiesa degli Scalzi and especially the old Jewish ghetto. On the island of Giudecca opposite, don’t miss the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore and the Basilica del Redentore.
