About

DJ Ron Slomowicz

spacer An award-winning international authority on electronic dance music, DJ Ron Slomowicz is both trendsetter and chronicler.

Calling Nashville home, his weekly radio show on WRVU celebrates its 20th anniversary this fall. The city’s first exposure to the emerging rave scene was through his weekly show, and as styles evolved from euro to happy house to trance to electro, Ron has always been the source for diverse playlists and the most cutting edge of vocal songs and tracks on the air.

Voted Best Club DJ in Nashville for four years in the Nashville Scene Reader’s Choice awards, Ron has spun clubs in Nashville since 1996. First in afterhours clubs (Ohm, Zone, eXceSs, Velvet) and now in prime time clubs – Play (voted ‘Best Place to Dance’) and Tribe (cutting-edge video club voted ‘Best Bar That Makes You Feel Like You Are Not in Nashville’), Ron brings new sounds and visions to clubland and keep the floors filled and the people dancing into the daylight. He’s also spun major events like Swan Ball, Artrageous, Vintnerr’s, and Wanderlust. Traveling extensively, he did a seven week residency at Splash in NYC and has played all over the country in cities like Las Vegas, Miami, Seattle, Orlando, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Denver, Chicago, and Indianapolis. All this travel led to a Best Resident/Club VJ in the Clubworld awards. Ron is a Billboard Club Chart reporter, part of the panel of 150 respected DJs who’s charts determine the weekly national chart.

As a leader in world of cutting edge video mixing technology, Ron was the first entertainer in the Untied States to use Arkos GrandVJ software. Using a dual laptop system, Ron seamlessly beatmixes and blends music and video and exports it to GrandVJ where he adds layers of visuals and effects – literally remixing the videos live. On stage with two laptops, a piano keyboard, and a lit MIDI controller, the technology enhances DJ Ron’s dynamic live performances. With his cutting edge setup, Ron has been featured in both Club World (page 1 and page 2) and DJ Times magazine (PDF).

After nine years as the IDMA award-winning guide/editor of dancemusic.about.com for New York Times, interviewing everyone from Lady Gaga to David Guetta, Armin van Buuren to Calvin Harris, Ron decided it was time for a new adventure and launched www.NotableDance.com. Featuring interviews, reviews and Song of the Day posts, the site elevates the user experience by integrating Spotify and other social networks.

With over 25,000 downloads, the DJ Ron app for iPhone and Android is constantly updated with podcasts, playlists, and events. His podcasts can also be found on Podomatic and Soundcloud. The homepage www.djron.com also serves as homepage with archived playlists (over 10 years), events. pictures and more. Of course, DJ Ron is also on Facebook and Twitter as well.

As part of the remix and production team Piper, Ron joined with Tommy Dorsey and Lenny Bertoldo to remix songs by Kylie Minogue, Kimberley Locke, LeAnn Rimes, and Wynonna Judd. The Piper remix of Wynonna’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” was a dance radio smash leading to the its inclusion on her rereleased CD “What the World Needs Now,” which was certified Gold. Piper has reached number one twice in a row on the Billboard Club Chart with remixes of Kimberley Locke’s “Band of Gold” and “Fall.”

Though it may sound the Ron’s world revolves around EDM, he does find time to pursue other hobbies. His love of colognes and fragrances led him to launch NotableScents.net earlier this year. With easy-to-read fragrance reviews and perfumer interviews, Ron aims to spread the word about amazing fragrances that might be a little outside of the mainstream radar.

Working tirelessly in the clubs, on the radio, on the web, and at events of all possible social strata, Ron is helping to move the concept of the DJ to a new level: instead of music or video, the next step involves working with both in a way that will bring electronic dance music to the people. With an expanding tour schedule, a vibrant new blog, and a possible mixed-DVD compilation all looming in the near future, the next level is here and the only way is up.
