Open casting calls are fun because it's like getting a live chance to win the acting lottery. You may pull into the studio lot, a struggling actress in a broken down '79 Plymouth, but you could leave the star of Comedy Central's newest hour-long show spoofing high school in the sunny beach towns of Southern Cali. This is a ridiculous example, to be sure, but open casting calls are no joke. In fact, you should treat every casting call like an open casting call because you never know when a casting director may say "wait! she's the one!" and choose you to play a completely different role than the one you were auditioning for.
Even when you are on the set doing extra work, that is an open casting call too. Even though you are working as an extra, you could be noticed by someone at any time, so always make sure that you conduct yourself professionally and treat everyone with courtesy in order to make a good impression. Nothing may happen for a long time, but how is this different from going on hundreds of auditions and open casting calls?
Of course, always remember that even though there is a lot of competition and open casting calls can be nerve-wracking, maintain a positive attitude and a pleasant demeanor. This is supposed to be fun. Even though it can be hard, it is part of the process of becoming a successful actress, so you have to be strong and have fun.
