Summary

These guidelines ensure the safe and prudent implementation of the rules of the State University of New York (University) Board of Trustees concerning firearms and other weapons on campuses.

Definitions

Air gun – a device that is capable of firing a metallic projectile by means of compressed gases or spring.

Deadly Physical Force – deadly physical force as defined in Section 10.00 (11) of the Penal Law.

Firearm – any firearm as defined in Section 265.00 (3), or any antique firearm as defined in Section 265.00 (14) of the Penal Law.

Rifle – a rifle as defined in Section 265.00 (11) of the Penal Law.

Shotgun – a shotgun as defined in Section 265.00 (12) of the Penal Law.

University police officer – a sworn member of the department as defined in Section 355 (2) (1) of the Education Law.

Weapon – (1) a "deadly weapon" as defined in Section 10.00 (12) of the Penal Law, or (2) any weapon defined in Section 265.01 of the Penal Law
