Nintendo officially launches the Nintendo DSi LL

Posted by David Walker on Thu 29 Oct 2009

4-inch handheld now requires bigger hands

The larger-screened Nintendo DSi rumour hit earlier in the week, but today Nintendo officially introduced the world to the DSi LL.

Launched at a Nintendo press event in Tokyo, the Nintendo DSi LL will instantly be loved by all who love brain training, but hate eye strain. You see, this new version now features a 4.2 inch screen - a 93 per cent increase over the DS Lite's screen size. According to Nintendo, it's at the request of customers, but we suspect the accountants and shareholders will be just as happy to see it in the run-up to Christmas. The larger screen is geared towards those who want to use their Nintendo handheld for internet and as a music player - essentially offering room for a larger font.

For your money, you get the the DSi LL bundled with two touch pens: one shorter and one longer touch pen (129.3mm), along with three DSiWare titles pre-installed - two brain training games (one for humanities, the other for sciences) and DS Easy Dictionary.

You can also choose from three colours when it lands in Japan on November 21st, dark brown, wine red and natual white. When is it coming to the UK? We don't know, Nintendo does have a nasty habit of delaying things, so you might want to add it to your Christmas list in pencil.
