STEAM Camps

Children ages 5-8 years will enjoy exploring and wondering about their world in the Summer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) Camps.

Children will engage in exciting hands-on and minds-on experiences as they observe, predict, test and document their growing understanding of the world around them. Children can enroll for one, two or all three of our 2-week sessions in and around the UD Laboratory Preschool. Descriptions & details are below:

Arts for Young Children

June 17-28   9:00am-12:00pm

The arts give children a universal language to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Held on the UD Children’s Campus, in the newly renovated, light filled art studio in the Laboratory Preschool/College School facility, this two-week camp offers children opportunities to explore their own creativity through activities in visual arts, music and movement, dramatic play, and block play.  Children will also have learning opportunities in the surrounding outdoor areas and in the UD arts community. This program is designed to help children enhance their communication and problem solving skills while gaining a better understanding of the world around them. These opportunities will help children as they continue to develop their writing and thinking skills.

Nature

July 8-19  9:00am-12:00pm

Children are natural born scientists and explorers of their world. Held on the UD Children’s Campus in the Laboratory Preschool/College School facility, this two-week camp will engage participants in direct experiences with their natural world. Campers will explore areas and streams along the James Hall Trail as well as the wetlands located adjacent to the school. Through their interactions with nature and each other, children and teachers will learn to care both about one another and about our shared world. Activities include stream explorations, examination and study of wetland plant life, explorations of properties of water and participation in an ongoing wetland preservation project. In addition campers will enjoy related literature, songs, writing opportunities, math, art activities and much more.

Ramps and Pathways- Physics Explorations for Young Scientists

spacer

July 22-August 2  9:00am-12:00pm

Children are natural born scientists and explorers of their world. Constructing knowledge about the physical world requires that children have the opportunity to actively create, test, and refine their ideas about how things work. Held on the UD Children’s Campus in the Laboratory Preschool/College School facility, this two-week Ramps and Pathways Study will engage campers in explorations geared to lead them to build a deeper understanding of force and motion. Children will interact with materials (such as cove molding, piping, gutters, marble runs, balls, etc.) and participate in activities in which they will make objects move or change in observable ways. They will formulate and test ideas, observe results and draw conclusions from their observations. They will engage in daily science talks where ideas will be shared and pondered with other classroom scientists. In addition, campers will enjoy related literature, songs, writing opportunities, math, art activities and much more.
