Methods of Teaching Agriculture and Technology Education I (Fall), II (Spring)

Placement Description

As part of your course work you will be required to visit a local high school or middle school this semester to observe and help students for a minimum of 12 hours.  The Field Placement Checklist below is designed to help you through this requirement.  Please read the entire page carefully.

Field Placement Checklist

There are several important steps you must take to make sure your experience is as successful as possible.  Failure to address any of these steps could delay your placement.  The checklist is divided into three key areas: Before the Semester Begins, During the Semester, and Before the Semester Ends.

Please check this page periodically as you progress through the semester.   Make sure to read it carefully and complete all steps listed.  Do not hesitate to contact our office with questions at any time.

Before the Semester Begins – There are several vital steps you must take to ensure you are placed as quickly as possible.  Your field placement is linked to your class assignments.  Failure to complete any of these steps could result in a delay which may affect your final grade.

Register for your Field Placement – The University of Delaware has created an online Field Placement System, or F.E.P.S., that you will utilize from now through student teaching.  It is designed to help you give us vital information for placements, let you create an electronic record of your experiences, and most importantly collect and store Teacher, Supervisor, and Faculty observations from methods and student teaching placements.   You can use our site to access F.E.P.S. at any time.  The link for undergraduate and graduate students is listed on every page of our website.  Look for the section titled ‘Undergraduate Students’ in the upper right corner.  Select the link titled ‘Student Log In’ to access F.E.P.S. and follow these steps:

- Log in;
- select ‘Early Field Placement’;
- select ‘Apply for your Early Field Placement’.

Make sure to contact us immediately if you do not see your course listed.  If this is your first time logging into F.E.P.S then you will have to electronically sign off on the University of Delaware Professionalism Policy for Professionals, or Dispositions Policy which is described below.

For this placement we will need to only know your transportation options.

Professionalism Policy – Please be advised that as a teacher candidate you are governed by the University of Delaware Professionalism Policy for Professionals, or ‘Dispositions Policy.’  It is important that you become familiar with this policy as it will guide your conduct during your all of your field experiences.  You may find more detailed information about the policy on our Dispositions page.    NOTE – When you log into F.E.P.S. for the first time you will be asked to electronically acknowledge that you have read and understand the policy.

TB Clearance – By Delaware Law, you cannot be placed until you prove that you do not have TB.  For more information visit our TB page.  If you are not cleared then you may need to be tested by either Student Health or your personal physician.

****Please note TB Self Service Clinics are being offered at various times on February 7th,14th, 21st, and 28th, 2012.  When making an appointment on the system, you need to set the start date to search of an appointment no later than six days before your desired date.****

 During the Semester

Log Sheet

You will be provided with a paper copy of an observation log sheet that will be used to record your visits.  It is important that you have an appropriate administrator sign the sheet to verify each visit.  At the end of the semester you will create an Online Field Placement record of your experience.  Your course instructor will then review your log sheet before electronically verifying your online record.  The observation log sheet is not needed after that point. Please use the links below to print out a log sheet if needed.

ID Badge – You are required to wear an approved Identification Badge at all times during any visit.  This consists of a plastic badge holder which you can purchase from the Trabant Bookstore, an appropriate lanyard, your UD1 ID, and a paper insert which Clinical Studies will provide in class.  More information can be found on our Identification Badge page.

Before the Semester Ends

As you finish your visits do not forget to complete your Online Field Placement Record mentioned previously.

Begin by following these steps:  log into F.E.P.S., select ‘Early Field Placement’, then ‘Create or Edit Your Field Placement Report.’  The course and number of hours are automatically entered.  You will need to provide the name of the site you visited.  There is a section where you may write any public comments about the experience as well as a section for private comments that can only be viewed by your instructor and our office.  When you apply to student teach you will need to print this record.  Only the public comments will appear.

Make sure to submit your record when it is complete.

 Best of luck with your placement!
