Lynn – April 6th
Seven years ago today….
Abe and I got hitched at The Screening Room (a movie theater/restaurant in NYC that doesn’t exist anymore). Our ceremony was wedding clips from our favorite movies…
…and Charlie Chaplin was our chaplain, marrying us through title cards…
…having a dead actor marry you isn’t legal, of course, so we made it official in a private ceremony with our families….
…but in the meantime we celebrated with everyone…
Foodies will wanna know – it was a strawberry shortcake from our local bakery in Astoria. Which has also, unfortunately, shut down since our wedding day.
But you know who just keeps on going? Us! 13 years total!
Our wedding was so much fun – we are still getting told today that it’s the most unique wedding people have ever attended. I was most definitely not a bridezilla – the dress you see here was bought at Loehmann’s for $50 (it cost more to alter/find undergarments for it) and my flowers came from the bodega around the corner that morning (orange tulips). The one thing I do regret is that we didn’t designate a photographer – nobody ever took a posed photo of the two of us together (not one that is super flattering, at least). This is the kinda stuff we ended up with:
If you’re planning a wedding, I recommend hiring a photographer (if you’re on a budget my friend Dennis is currently looking for some clients – and not just in the L.A. area, he’ll travel – if you mention my name maybe he’ll cut you a deal) and my other bit of advice is to register somewhere with some high quality goods. We were amongst the first of our friends to get married, I didn’t do much cooking back then, and I didn’t know you could ask for big-ticket items! I’m still kicking myself that we didn’t register at Williams Sonoma.
But other than that…my wedding day was one of the best of my life, and the week that followed (in South Beach) was pure bliss. The last seven years haven’t been too bad, either.
Here’s some more mushy stuff:
- 1/2 cup oats, 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 frozen banana, 5 or 6 whole organic frozen strawberries
- Few drops Nunaturals Vanilla Stevia
- 2 TB Egg Whites
- Kaia Cocoa Mole Sunflower Seeds
- Sweetriot Cacao Nibs
And a heaping teaspoon of Tierra Farm Organic Chocolate Hazlenut Butter…
Watch out, Abe….this nut butter is trying to steal my heart….
With a cup of blueberry tea:
For lunch I warmed up some leftovers from last night – I made a Cabbage and Bean Crockpot Stew. Here’s what was in it:
- 1 whole head of savoy cabbage, chopped into hunks
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 can organic pinto beans
- 1 bay leaf, salt and pepper to taste
- About 2 TB of Trader Joe’s Peanut Satay Sauce (that I’d kept portioned and frozen in the fridge)
Put all the above in the crockpot on high for about 3 hours (or 6 on low), when it’s done I added 2 cups of cooked brown rice, which absorbed all the liquid. Made a lot. Slightly sweet and sour.
Today I had it with some frozen broccoli:

Time to do a little editing with Christy – then get ready for tonight – Abe and I are going to one of our favorite restaurants in L.A. to celebrate!
Are you married? If so, how long? How many years have you been with your partner total?
