A note about commenting on this blog….

I’ve turned the comments off for almost all blog posts. Once in a while I’ll accept comments for a few days and moderate them. If blog posts are accepting comments, they’ll be the most recent ones.

As much as I enjoyed letting people gain a “dofollow” link from this blog, and strongly advocate the use of “dofollow”, I personally don’t have the time to moderate posts like, “Thanks for such a nice information.I like it.” by someone just looking for a link and using daft “Name” text like, “Metal Buildings” just for the link benefit. Sadly, most comments are like that.

I know this blog is on lists of “dofollow” blogs, and I also know that people are outsourcing the task of posting on blogs such as these to India, Thailand and other exotic locations for probably two bucks per hour or a nickel per comment. I wouldn’t mind that if people read the posts and wrote thoughtful comments with their true Name and a keyword or two in the name section. What I object to is having to spend my time, which I value at $1,000 per hour, moderating rubbish comments. I’m not going to pay an outsourcer to moderate the rubbish comments either, that just seems like it would extend the problem.

So, comments are turned off for almost all posts. I hope you enjoy the content.

I have been removing comment author URLs where appropriate. I found many expired domains, links to dead websites and even a hacked site. In light of how high the bar is now for generating quality content and not linking to bad sites, I’ve removed many of the bad links.

I checked 1,400 links and noticed that the older a link was, the more likely it was to be a “bad link”. For that reason, comment author URLs will be removed once they reach two years old. If one of your links was removed, feel free to leave a comment on a recent blog post!

In response to this…

On Tue Feb 05 11:58:01 CST 2013,

Please STOP emailing me! I blocked your content and you seem to find a way around it. This is a recorded written letter to stop emailing our company. Should you fail to ignore, we will seek legal matters.

… I realised I needed to make my email policies clear.

I’ve had a mailing list since 1997. I respect people’s privacy. Every single email list I run is hosted at GetResponse. They add an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every single outgoing email. It’s not optional to include that, it’s mandatory.

If someone joins one of my email lists, they always have the option to remove their email address by clicking the unsubscribe link.

I think the confusion, for the person who sent me the complaint, arises from the fact that people often use multiple email addresses, and therefore could be on my lists several times. As I mentioned, I’ve had a mailing list since 1997, so it’s quite possible people may have opted-in using different email addresses over the subsequent years. When someone unsubscribes one email address, the system doesn’t know about any of their other email addresses. So it’s necessary to unsubscribe once for each email address. This system most definitely does not mean that I “find a way around” being “blocked”. If anyone doesn’t want to hear from me, I don’t want to email them. It’s that simple.
