Today was our first day back at the Marwell Research Centre — our home at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The new members of our team this year are Adam’s wife Victoria and his mother Nathalie, who are in Kenya for their first time.
Our day was spent planning our activities at Ntugi, as well as preparing our Twitter, Flickr, and website to document our progress. Kevin and Adam would be upgrading the Ntugi’s current OLPCs to the new Sugar build (0.92), writing a new base script to flash the OLPCs with, and installing a script that would allow the XOs to use SD cards as additional RAM.
Nathalie would be teaching spreadsheets through the Gnumeric spreadsheet application to the teachers and students. Victoria and Richard would teach portraiture and painting, and the Scratch animation activity on the XO. Connor, Amal, Mark, and I will be spending the majority of our time teaching with the OLPCs, documenting our progress, and looking for new ways to integrate the computers into the school’s curriculum.
Updates as they come,
Derek
