Hurricane Sandy Relief
IAVA has case managers standing by to assist veterans and their families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
We know there are a lot of resources out there and that the systems are confusing, especially in a time of natural disaster, and we can help. Our case managers include veterans and social workers with years of experience dealing with veterans. They know the systems, know the resources, and know where veterans are coming from. They can help match veterans with resources to meet their needs.
At this time we are here to connect you with resources in the following areas:
- Housing - referral to agencies that provide assistance with house repairs, foreclosure/eviction avoidance
- Homelessness - referral to agencies that provide assistance finding temporary or permanent housing
- Public Benefits - assistance with filing for food stamps (SNAP), medicaid, and public assistance (welfare)
- Financial - referral to agencies that provide assistance with providing for essential needs such as food, rent, utilities (gas, electric)
- Mental Health - assistance in connecting to clinics which provides mental health support
As we are not a direct service provider, we do not provide the following:
- Direct financial assistance
- Clinical mental health services
- Transportation to and from appointments
- Direct legal services
- Direct benefits assistance
