Students are required to pass a Part 0 written examination covering fundamental topics.

When and how to take the PH 0 exam: Exam dates are posted on this website. Please sign up for the exam using the form above. Students are encouraged to take this examination in their first year of the program.
How to prepare: Review basic Calculus. Sample exam.
Students are required to pass a Part 1 written examination covering real and complex analysis and linear and abstract algebra. The exam is generally scheduled once or twice a year.
Prerequisites: You need to be a registered PhD student to take the exam. You must have passed the PhH 0 exam with a score of 85 or better. All PhD students must register for the course RE 9990-PhD Examination during the semester that they take the PH 1 qualifying exam. This course carries no credit and no fees.
When and how to take the PH 1 exam: Exam dates are posted on this website. Please sign up for the exam using the form above.During the academic year, students who wish to take the qualifying exam as an oral exam can do so by giving the Department four weeks notice.
How to prepare: Review graduate level Real and Complex Analysis, and Linear Algebra. Sample exam.
Students are required to pass a Part 2 oral examination on topics chosen by the student and thesis advisor. While writing a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty advisor, the student is requiered to pass Part 2
Once students start their dissertation, they must register for at least 3 credits every semester until it is completed and accepted, i.e. the defencse of dissertation is presented and passed.
Prerequisites: You need to be a registered PhD student to take the exam. You must have passed the PH 1 exam with a score of 85 or better.
All doctorate candidates must complete a minimum of 75 credits of graduate work beyond the Bachelor degree, including a minimum of 21 credits of dissertation research. Students must take a minimum of 27 credits, including all dissertation credits ar NYU-Poly.
Full-time students must complete all PhD work within 6 calendar years, counted from the time of admission to graduate work at NYU-Poly.
Part-Time students must complete within 12 calendar years.
The final requirement for the PhD degree is a public oral exam on the student's dissertation.
Students must demonstrate the ability to read mathematical text written in French, German, or Russian.
