Editors' Review
+by: Download.com staff on November 01, 2014
SlimBrowser 7.0 still uses Microsoft's Trident engine behind its updated layout, but it also packs many new and improved features, including Photo Salon upgrades, a completely redesigned Ad Blocker, mouse gestures, improved tabs, and a new process model that reduces hanging in long sessions.
Pros
Omni-bar mode: SlimBrowser's redesigned address bar supports "omni-bar" (integrated search) mode -- just hide the default quick-search bar to activate omni-bar searching.
Upload clipboard image: Clicking Upload Clipboard Image on Save dialogs copies images to the Clipboard for uploading or sharing, saving time on screen grabs.
New ad blocker: The new-from-scratch Ad Blocker lets users subscribe to filter lists in different languages and updates lists automatically.
Cons
Busy look: SlimBrowser's layout doesn't include much more than other browsers yet somehow manages to look crowded and busy.
Favorites: Although we like SlimBrowser's Favorites sidebar, the auto import option added long bookmarks for eBay and Amazon to the Favorites menu and toolbar. You can opt to import bookmarks to a separate folder and integrate them manually.
Bottom Line
Though SlimBrowser is built on the same engine as IE, it's no clone. Wide customizability and unique features make SlimBrowser worth trying.
