Ithra Loves Teachers!

The University is constantly on the lookout for new teachers and classes. It is not necessary to be a Laurel, have a modern degree or even have taught before. What is needed is the ability to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for a subject and to present the material in a clear and organized fashion. If you would like to teach, and are already part of the Ithra database (i.e. you have taught or been a student before) please put the class you want to teach into the Ithra database. This is quickly and easily done by filling out the online course description form (please note that the look of this form will be changing soon, as website changes are implemented. The basic function of the form will not change).

If you need more information about becoming a teacher or, having been a teacher or student, if you are in the database and your password for that database, please visit our webpage for teachers. PLEASE NOTE: The website styling is starting to change. the new webpage for teachers is in the new styling. Enjoy!

The University of Ithra was established in AS IX to provide an environment for the exchange of knowledge and skills covered by the SCA period, being roughly 600 AD to 1650 AD.  University sessions are held throughout the year all over the Kingdom of An Tir.  There are numerous campuses through the Kingdom each headed by a Chancellor whose job it is to arrange sessions for a particular geographic area.  The University is governed by a Lord High Regent and a Board of Regents.

University sessions, called "Ithras" are often held as separate events.  Sometimes other types of events will include Ithra classes as part of the activities.

The University has much to offer everyone; however, it is particularly helpful to newcomers and other desirous of a rapid and comprehensive introduction to life in the Current Middle Ages.  Often, the University offers classes students are not likely to find elsewhere.  Ithra credit is given which can apply toward Ithra degrees.  Because the University operates through a Central Registry, any classes taken at any of the campuses throughout the Kingdom apply to the earning of Ithra degrees.  Many students, however, take classes only for their own information and interest.

The Regents are the overall governing body of the University of Ithra.  They decide policy for the University as a whole.  Each campus is headed by a Chancellor.  Chancellors are appointed by the Regents for their proven ability to organize successful Ithra sessions. Chancellors are distinguishable by the badge of Ithra they wear around their neck.

Ithra degrees are Lector Artis (“Reader in Arts”) and Lector Scientae (“Reader in Sciences”).  They do not have application in the modern world, save to enhance the student’s understanding of history and historic applications.  Accordingly, the University credits and/or degrees are not transferrable to the real world institutions.
