Xaverians meet at Los Angeles: Xaverians and friends
in California met at Chanda Zaveri's residence in Los Angeles followed
by dinner on Tuesday, May 20. Fr. Felix Raj accompanied by the Hon.
Secretary, Mr. F. Hasan, addressed the gathering on SXC Vision 2020
and answered questions from the floor. It was decided that a two-day conference
of Xaverians and friends will be organised in the month of September 2014. Chanda
Zaveri is the CEO of Actiogen, one of the world's leading molecular
biologists, based in the USA.

Father meets SXC Alumni in Europe. Luxembourg: On Saturday, May 3rd, Fr. Felix Raj, SJ, Principal of St.
Xavier's College, met with the Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich, SJ of the
Catholic Archdiocese of Luxembourg. Most Rev. Hollerich congratulated Fr.
Raj for setting up an Europe chapter of the St. Xavier's College Calcutta
Alumni and offered him all possible assistance towards the
successful functioning of the init in Europe. The Archbishop who taught
for many years at Sophia University, Tokyo, before appointed as Archbishop,
also promised help in the international collaboration between SXCK and the
University of Luxembourg. " The office of the Sophia University at
Luxembourg could be made available for SXCK", he added.

Xavier's goes far & wide to realise dream
 The
fifth edition of Beyond Boundaries, the annual international meet of
the St. Xavier’s College Calcutta Alumni Association, got off to an
eclectic start in Melbourne on Saturday morning. A prayer service, a
musical performance, elocution, a presentation of the college’s
Vision 2020 and a cricket talk show were all part of the first day
of the convention.

St. Xavier's College, Kolkata has started a
rural campus at Raghapur, 20km from its Mother Teresa Sarani
(City) campus, in Bishnupur constituency of South 24-Parganas,
West Bengal
The decision was taken in the last governing body meeting in
April. The building with 15,000sqft is ready with all
infrastructure facilities like classrooms, library, computer
lab, offices, canteen etc. Classes begin from this academic
session. The medium of instruction will be Bengali.

ST. XAVIER'S COLLEGE RESTORES THE 150
YEAR OLD OBSERVATORY: At a time when
St. Xavier's College Kolkata is busy expanding its campus,
another new addition to the present campus deserves much
applause. On 10th March 2014 the re-commissioned astronomy
observatory and a solar observatory were inaugurated by Fr.
Felix Raj SJ, principal of the college and were dedicated to the
memory of Fr. Eugene Lafont, favourite teacher of Acharya Jadish
Chandra Bose. Fr. Lafont introduced Bose to Science. This
observatory is one of the oldest in the sub-continent. The
renowned scientist and professor of St. Xavier's College, Father
Eugene Lafont, set it up in 1865. Father Lafont was known as
Father of Modern Science in India. |

This observatory hit
the headlines of all newspapers in November 1865 for
predicting a sever cyclone and saving hundreds of lives.
It was listed with the Observatories of the world and had
close collaboration with the Observatory of Vatican. While
it is the oldest in the country, it is definitely the
oldest and biggest set up in an educational campus.

A Research Milestone For St. Xavier's College Kolkata: The
CentralResearch Facility‚ of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, was inaugurated by the
Rector, Fr. Dominic Savio, SJ and the Principal, Fr. Felix Raj on the 3rd April
2014. After a short prayer service, Fr. Principal blessed the newest
addition to this 153-year-old institution and christened it. The Fr. Frans
Goreaux Central Research Facility (GCRF), in an attribute to the great Jesuit
Mathematician, another legend associated with this college.

The SXCCAA has launched a novel project called Lakshya in Singapore.
Father Principal witnessed the generosity of Alumni on the floor when 31 of them
promised to donate 41 lacs for the Rajarhat Project. The two auctions - a
painting of Tagore and a cricket bat signed by Saurav Ganguly fetched 9.5 lacs.
Lakshya will be a year-long project calling all Xaverians and wellwishers to

Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, was assessed by NAAC (National
Assessment and Accreditation Council) with a CGPA of 3.53 on a four point scale
at A Grade for a period of five years. Congratulations to all the stake-holders,
staff, students, parents and alumni/ae.

year. Its first issue was published in the year 2009. On 20th
January 2012, on the day of Convocation and Valedictory, the
fourth issue (Volume IV, 2012) of the journal was released by
the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal.
