To enter the State Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) of Florida or the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), students first compete in an affiliated regional science and Engineering Fair (RSEF) that incorporates their geographic location.  In Florida, all Districts are assigned to an affiliated RSEF.  The RSEF invites the participation of all public and FLDOE – registered non-public schools with students in grades 6 – 12 who are part of their geographic area.

Forms, Rules/Guidelines, and Resources

The State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). For this reason, we must adhere to the international rules and guidelines set forth by the Society for Science & the Public’s Scientific Review Committee. These rules outline the forms and supervision that are needed for all projects as well as those that involve human subjects, vertebrate animals, potentially hazardous biological agents and hazardous chemicals, devices & activities.

In addition, the SSEF of Florida has supplemental Rules & Guidelines and forms that are specific to our state regulations and requirements.

Please remember that these rules are in place to ensure the safety of the student researcher as well as the subject (human or animal) that they may be working with in their study. They are NOT trivial and are based on what working scientists must adhere to as well as federal laws and regulations.

The purpose of these rules is to:

  • protect the rights and welfare of the student researcher
  • protect the rights and welfare of the human participant
  • ensure adherence to state, federal and state regulations
  • ensure use of safe laboratory practices
  • protect the environment
  • determine eligibility for competition in the SSEF of Florida
