Get you Cubs tickets today and see the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field in 2014! 2013 marked the fourth consecutive losing season for the Chicago Cubs, but things are finally looking up in the Windy City for the North Siders. With one of the best farm systems in baseball and future stars Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro already entrenched at Wrigley Field, Cubs fans finally have something to look forward to, for the first time since the 2008 season. Chicago's president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer decided to fire manager Dale Sveum after just two seasons as manager of the Cubs, and replaced Sveum with Rick Renteria -- marking yet another new era of Cubs baseball. Though many in the baseball industry believed Sveum's firing was haste, but Sveum led the Cubs to a weak 127-197 record in two seasons, and Chicago's young players such as Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro regressed at the major league level. Cubs fans can expect both Rizzo and Castro to rebound in 2014 -- and if they do, the Cubs could find themselves in contention toward the end of the summer. Last season, Castro hit just .245/.284/.347 with 10 home runs in 161 games, while Rizzo hit .233/.323/.419. In 2014, the ZiPS projection system projects Castro to hit .280/.319/.413, and Rizzo to hit .255/.336/.464. Though neither projection is MVP-quality, the projected numbers for Castro and Rizzo represent major improvement. With top prospects Javier Baez and Jorge Soler on the way to Wrigley Field soon, the Cubs need Castro and Rizzo to progress, as the Cubs attempt to build a dangerous lineup. Jeff Samardzija will anchor Chicago's rotation. Samardzija was the subject of trade rumors over the winter, but Epstein and Hoyer opted to hang onto the team's ace. Though Samardzija posted an 8-13 record with a 4.34 ERA in 2013, he has top-of-the-rotation ability, as suggested by his 214 strikeouts in 213 and 2/3 innings last season. Samardzija will be joined by Travis Wood and Edwin Jackson in the rotation, giving the Cubs a top of the rotation filled with upside.
