From My Home To Yours: Acrylic

Written on November 10, 2014 at 5:53 am , by Michael Wurm, Jr.

Over the past couple years, I’ve embraced a new style in my home by incorporating more contemporary elements. Even though meshing the new with the old is challenging at times, overall it’s been it’s been a fun process. Plus, I’m loving the results.

One easy way I’ve found to add a more modern feel is with acrylic furnishings. Because of its new-found popularity, there is a huge array of items in this style. From chairs and tables to accessories like lamps and tape dispensers, you can incorporate acrylics into any room.

I’ve used a console table in my entryway. Because most acrylic furnishings are clear, they don’t take up much visual space, but can still be super functional.

I also recently added a ghost chair to my guest room. Its traditional lines work well in my 1916 home, and the acrylic adds a contemporary air. The perfect combination!

To inspire you to add a bit of this style to your home, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite pieces. I especially love how some of the items are paired with gold and brass!

Friday Finds 11.7

Written on November 7, 2014 at 1:27 pm , by Erin Menardi

Hello all! I hope November has introduced itself kindly this year–I know here at least that winter chill turned on like a switch. I love the cold though, so I’m not going to complain–unless it doesn’t snow soon. Then I’ll complain. I’m feeling particularly earthy today, so I thought I’d share some recycled wood projects for the crafts-people out there. Good luck!

First of all, project aside, this puppy is absolutely adorable. Build this fun modern pet bed for your pooch with this tutorial from A Beautiful Mess. I love the bright colors and bold pattern, but you can make it blend with your decor just as easily!

Looking for a fresh spin in your living room? Try this recycled barn door coffee table from Cleverly Inspired. Bring a bit of rustic flair inside your home and get a fun hand-crafted piece all in one!

For a more subtle wooden touch, try these pallet wood wall pieces from Craftberry Bush. I like the subtle, washed-out look and the relaxing, brown tones showing through underneath–perfect for adding some calm to your room.

These wooden crate stairs from Funky Junk Interiors are so unique and fun! I absolutely love this idea. Hit a couple antique shops or thrift stores and see if you can find some fun crates to incorporate into your new stairwell!

And lastly, if you’re looking for that missing piece of flair in your bedroom, take a look at this modern headboard design from Fresh American Style. While the completely white look soothes, funky mix-matched colors would add some oomf to your space!

And there you have it. Until next time, Style Spotters! Happy crafting–the trees thank you!

Organize With This: Autumn Inspired Storage

Written on November 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm , by Jen Jones

I know that some of you may already be thinking ahead to the holiday season, but I am just not ready to play that game yet.  The air is just starting to get crisp, the leaves have fallen and crunch underfoot and hot apple cider is constantly flowing.  There is something so magical about the current time of the year, and so much to appreciate and enjoy.  Simple pleasures include curling up in front of the fire with a cozy throw and a favorite book, or baking up a warm fall treat.

Often times, as the seasons shift, so does the interior of our home.  Just as I may add vibrant floral pillows to our sofa in the spring, I also love to add subtle fall textures and finishes during autumn and winter months.  Flannel blankets, faux fur pillows, scented candles and woven baskets all make an appearance within the walls of our home.

This year gold will continue to shine, however, copper will also strive to share the spotlight.  Additional autumn inspired finishes include flannel, felt and wool, worn leather, soft linen, raw wood, mercury glass and aged brass

Feeling inspired by the textures and finishes that we use to decorate our home this time of the year, I thought I would pull together my favorite autumn inspired storage solutions.
