This is simply amazing; a piece of paper that transforms itself into a robot. I can't stop watching the gif, it's incredible. Imagine the future of this technology...

Thanks to everyone who pledged to my Kickstarter "Chirp" book project. Your support was greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, we didn't make the goal. My new name for Kickstarter is Egobuster. But I haven't given up... I'm still looking for a sponsor or publisher.

July 14, 2014

Just switched up the Bend Store. Moved it to the Big Cartel to basically make it a lot more user friendly. AND, I've added a few new drawings. Enjoy and let me know what you think. Seriously, man, write me.

July 8, 2014

I had this idea to do a book of the illustrations I've done for The Skateboard Mag (TSM) over the last several years. But I haven't been able to figure out funding or sponsorship for it... so I started a Kickstarter. If I can reach my goal by August 8th, it'll be Bend Press Project #24; CHIRP, a 7"x7" perfect-bound, soft-cover, full-color book filled with skate drawings. 100 of the books will be hardbound, signed editions. Jump on board, folks, there are some nice incentives over on the CHIRP Kickstarter page. Thanks so much. Especially to Kevin Wilkins and Ako Jefferson over at TSM.

I've been drawing a lot of Wrench Pilot-esk bits lately. Some of them are for The Skate Mag's "Chirping In" column and some for various other projects. Over the next few months I'll be putting the original drawings up for sale here in the Bend Store... right now I'm adding 4. They are all original pen drawings on paper and signed on the lower right. Check them out here.

The Diurnal Drawing Project; Phase 5 has run it's course after going over 50 drawings deep. I want to thank everyone who contributed — keep up the amazing line work! Look for more contribution possibilities in the future.

Note to everyone who's made an order from the Bend Store in the last week or so — everything went out today. Keep your eyes on the mailbox. Thanks for the support. There are still plenty of copies of Bend #23 and the Wrench Pilot giclee prints are still available as well. If you're so inclined, hit up the store... thanks.

May 29, 2014

I have a new print available in the Bend Store. It's a small one...a 9" x 12" signed Giclee. The image is page 6 (of 6) of the very first Wrench Pilot (1987). The one edition of Wrench Pilot that was never published in it's original form. I thought page 6 stood alone pretty well, so I'm offering it as this print. It's also today's Diurnal Drawing if you want to see it in more detail. $15.00 plus shipping and it's yours.

Bend #23 is now available in the Bend Store. It's a 7" x 8.5", 44 page, saddle-stitched, ode to selected issues of Bend Zine and other Bend Press projects from over the years. From #1 (1986) to #22 (2014). Hope you dig it. The image below is a spread from "Insipid," a zine I did with my old friend, Mark Lewman in 1987. I also still have about 10 issues of Bend #22 left — you can find that one in the Bend Store as well.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has posted a huge archive of almost 400,000 images from its collection. It's worth a look for sure. Non-commercial use only.

Started a really good book by actor/comic/writer/interviewer, Mark Maron — "Attempting Normal." His observations are spot on as far as I'm concerned. His podcast WTF is cool as well. He's interviewed — or had conversations with — everyone from Conan O'Brien and Louie CK to Shepard Fairey.

The multi-talented Benny Gold has just re-launched his website. Along side the amazing collection of wearables, Benny gave up digital space to the artists that have contributed to his line. Including Cody Hudson, Ferris Plock and many more... yours truly included.

The Diurnal Drawing Project has entered its second month. I'd like to thank all the talented drawers for being a part of it. It's a real pleasure opening up my email to these great drawings. Thanks and continue to contribute... let's keep this thing going. Who knows, I may make a book of them one day. Email me.

My friend Kim Boyle's latest build, a '78 BMW R100/7, is featured over at Bike Exif. Absolutely beautifully minimalistic build, Kim.

Thursday's Diurnal comes from the one and only Travis Millard...

April 1, 2014

Today's Diurnalist is Mr. Jeremy Fish. Dig it. And I actually put up tomorrow's Diurnal as well. Couldn't wait. It's from Chris Chappell.

If you're looking for something to listen to for the next hour, head over to the Lodown magazine site. They asked me to do a "mixed tape" for them. Let me know what you think of the mix.

If you're looking for something to read, pick up a copy of the new Monster Children (#42). The piece I write for every issue, Bender, is illustrated by Travis Millard this time around! I'm so happy he did this for me/MC... hopefully it's not the last one. Thanks, Travis!

The Diurnal Drawing Project is now up and running. The first drawer is Friend of Bend, Rik Catlow. Send in your line art via email. Scans are preferred over snap shots. At least 600 pixels wide. Thanks all.

March 27, 2014

We're going to try it again... The Diurnal Drawings; Round 5. I'll be posting a drawing a day from all contributors (if it meets Bend Press standards). Send in your drawing(s) via email. If you want to check out the previous Diurnal project, go here (click "previous" and "next" for more examples of work). Hope you'll join us.

I used to own a Triumph Thruxton... If these cafe kits from Metisse in Germany had been around (and I had any disposable income to speak of — key), I would have been all over it. Beautious.

Check out Thrasher's new video series with Michael Burnett, Traffic Talk. First episode features Lance Mountain. While you're at it, click over to the Vans Living Off The Wall series and watch Angela Boatwright's doc on East LA punk shows. Rad.

Slight facelift. Back to simple... though the deeper you delve into Bend Press, the more maze-like it becomes. The site was started in 1999 and has been fiddled with a lot over the years.

Use the waybackmachine to really dig deep.

February 18, 2014

Wow. A whole year since my last posting. Slacker.

Bend Zine #22 is available. 75 copies only. 8.5" x 5.5", 40 pages, each with an original drawing included. Signed and numbered and sealed in a poly-bag. No two issue's interiors are alike — each is unique in it's editorial content and paper. The "Rejection Issue" features work that was rejected by my past & present clients — from graphics to illustrations to words... the clients vary from Lakai Footwear to Beats by Dre. Get an inside look of what didn't make the cut. You learn from your failures, right?
