Tag Basics

spacer Tags allow you to give tasks additional context or to group similar tasks for easy viewing.

You might use a tag to track the state of a task (e.g. “Needs Review”) or to categorize them (e.g. “Recruiting”).

Tags on a given task will appear to the right of the task name or in the Tags field in the task pane.

Use the Filter menu at the top of the center pane when viewing a project in order to see all of the tasks in that project that are associated with certain tags.

Tags are not available for Personal Projects.

Tags in the Left Pane

To show a list of tags in the left pane:

  • Hover next to the Organization or Workspace name in the left pane
  • Click the Settings icon
  • Select Show Tags List
  • Find the list below your projects at the bottom of the left pane

spacer Click the TAGS heading to collapse the list. Revisit the Settings menu to hide them.

You cannot reorder the Tags list in the left pane.

Tag View

To view a list of all tasks associated with a tag, click the tag name in the left, center, or task pane or find it in search. The tasks that have had that tag applied to them will load in the center pane (provided you are permitted to view the tasks).

Creating Tags

To create a Tag:

  • Select a task
  • Click the + symbol in the Tags field in the task pane
  • Type the new tag name and press Enter on your keyboard

spacer

When typing the tag name, you will see a drop down menu of existing tags with similar names. Select a tag from the drop down if you are looking to add an existing tag.

Editing Tags

To edit a tag name:

  • Click the tag name from the task pane of one of its tasks
  • Notice the tag list will load in the center pane
  • Click the tag name at the top of the center pane and edit

Tag Colors

Use tag colors to make your tags more visually distinct.

spacer

Choose, remove, or change a color for your tag:

  • Load the tag in the center pane by clicking its name in the left, center, or task pane, or by finding it in search
  • Click the down arrow at the top of the center pane
  • Make a selection from the My Color section

This will give the tag name a color in the center pane and the task pane.

Tag colors are personal. If you choose a color for a tag, only you will see this change.

spacer

You can not add a color for Search Views or People Views.

You also have the option to select colors for projects.

Deleting Tags

Delete a tag much like you would delete a project:

  • Click the tag name from the task pane of one of its tasks
  • Notice the tag list will load in the center pane
  • Click the down arrow menu at the top of the center pane
  • Select Delete Tag
  • You will need to confirm the deletion and you will have an option to Undo the action.

spacer

Once deleted, all tag followers will get an email notification about the deletion with the Tag ID. If the deletion was in error, anyone can contact us with the ID to have the tag restored.

Tag Permissions

Tags are public to the Organization or Workspace. Read more in the Permissions section of the Guide.
