Help on the Patent Number Search Page
This page contains information on the use of the Patent Number Search
Page. If you have any unanswered questions, please read the FAQ.
The Patent Number Search Page allows you to search for patents by their number. While
you can search for patent numbers in other
ways, this page is designed to simplify one of the most common types of searching. To
use the page:
- Type the patent number or numbers into the box. If you include more than one number,
they should be separated by a space. It is not necessary to include commas or to
capitalize the prefix.
- Hit the Search button.
The database will be searched for all the numbers you provide, and a list of the
documents matching your query will be returned, with the most recent ones first. Since the
database only includes data for patents issued from 1976 to date, any patent numbers which
fall outside of this time period will not turn up in a search. A list of all the patent
numbers in our database is available on the Database
Contents page.
A few points to note:
- Anything you enter into the patent number search box that is not a patent number (other
terms, operators like 'OR' or 'AND') will be ignored. The search will be conducted only on
entries you make that are recognized as patent numbers.
- The Refine Search box will use the same query format as the
Advanced Search Page. See the Advanced Search Help Page for details on its use.
