In what looks set to be a potentially fascinating meeting of musical minds, it has been announced that Laurel Halo and Julia Holter will join Paris-born composer/performer Daniel Wohl in a live collaboration as part of New York’s Ecstatic Music Festival- this February. Information available for the concert hints that new compositions will be shared, as well as material that will be newly arranged and interpreted for live instrumentation.

The concert will take place on Saturday 23rd February at the Merkin Concert Hall, with tickets available here. The Ecstatic Music Festival, which will be returning for its third year, encourages collision and cross-pollination between the worlds of classical and contemporary music, aiming to represent “a contemporary culture in which the incorporation of many different influences is the norm, not the exception”. One of the other ten concerts planned as part of the festival will see boundary-pushing rock group Deerhoof perform with modern classical music ensemble Dal Niente.

Signalling that the performance is bound to offer more in the way of innovation than simply applying classical arrangements to Laurel Halo and Julia Holter’s works, Daniel Wohl’s TRANSIT describe themselves as a collective of artists aiming to reflect the full reaches of experimental modern music.
