Drop or Withdraw
from MSU-EU Courses
spacer

We hope that you wont have to, but we understand that sometimes students need to drop or withdraw from a course.

Dropping/withdrawing from MSU Extended University courses

To drop or withdraw from a course offered through Extended University, fill out the online Drop/Withdrawal Request form.

Please note that this form is only for dropping a course offered through Extended University.

If you are dropping more than one course you will need to fill out one form for each course.

Dropping/withdrawing from other MSU courses

See the MSU Drop/Add Regulations and Procedures page.

Deadlines for drops and withdrawals

Deadlines for drops and withdrawals will be determined from the begin date of the course and not the date a student registers for the course.

See Extended University's Drop a Course policies for more information.

What is the difference between dropping and withdrawing from a course?

Drop

When you drop a course, you will not receive a grade for the course and the course will not appear on your transcript. Students have a limited length of time at the beginning of a course to drop.

Please see EU administrative drop policies for deadline information.

Withdrawal

Unlike a drop, students who withdraw from a course will receive a grade of W on their transcript for the course.

You withdraw when you request to drop after the posted drop deadline. It is allowed only under extraordinary conditions. Note that non-attendance does not constitute a drop or withdrawal from a course.

Withdrawals require instructor consent in writing. Ask your instructor to send an email to distance@montana.edu with his or her consent.

What about my financial aid?

If you are receiving financial aid, speak with the Office of Financial Aid to determine how the drop or withdrawal will affect your status.

What about refunds?

If you drop a course during the drop period, you are eligible to receive at least a partial refund.

If you are eligible for a refund, your refund check will be mailed to you (please make sure your address on file is current) or will be direct deposited if you are signed up for Direct Deposit.

If you withdraw from a course, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Please see the EU Administrative Policies for more detailed information about refunds.

Please note that the $30 registration fee cannot be refunded. All drops and withdrawals will be assessed a $25 minimum administrative fee.

If a course is cancelled, tuition and fees are fully refunded.
