Student Bulletin

  • February 27-March 5, 2015

    STUDENT BULLETIN:

WASC: All Students – In about a week and a half we will have some adults visiting our campus.  They might be in some of your classes and you could see them walking around or talking to students during break or lunch.  These adults are from an organization called WASC which stands for Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  The two main priorities of the WASC Committee are 1) certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning and 2) the improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning.  While they are here, please feel free to talk to them.

MR. SANTANA: ASB has lots of upcoming events.  Mr. Santana is tonight!  Some of our finest junior and senior boys will be going head to head in our second annual Mr. Santana Pageant.  It starts at 7:00 pm in the gym; the doors open at 6:30 pm.  Tickets are $5, $3 with an ASB card. Ally Wagner from KUSI’s PPR will be a judge tonight and she’s bringing her camera crew.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES: Girls rule and boys drool!  Next week is Battle of the Sexes.  Join us in the large quad for games every day at lunch.  We will wrap up our week long competition on Friday, March 6th in the gym during the Spring Sports Assembly.  Who will reign supreme!

BLOOD DRIVE: ASB is hosting its second blood drive on the year on March 17th.  We exceeded our goal at our December drive, just in time for the holidays.  Because so many donate around the holidays, this time of the year they are really in need of donations.  Help us reach our goal of 75 appointments to help out with the high demand of blood.  You could save a life.

GRAD NITE: Seniors – Grad Night to Disneyland is on June 13th.  Permission slips are in the attendance office now.  There are only 60 spots available and you must have everything turned in by April 17th.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SANTANA FACULTY TEAM of Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Snipes, Mrs. Palechek, Mrs. Short, Mr. Rupp, and Ms. DeHart who bested the Varsity Academic League team 91 to 74.  Kudos to Mr. Johnson, the faculty MVP, who earned 54 of the faculty’s 91 points.

BOOK FINES: Attention Sultan Scholars!  The new fine list for March will be up in the library next week.  Also, the beginning of spring Break is the deadline.  REPEAT – the deadline to clear all textbook fines.  Missing books must either be found, replaced, or paid for by the beginning of break, March 27th.  After that date, a permanent textbook fine of up to $10 per missing book will be applied to your account because it is now considered overdue.  Kudos to all you Sultan Scholars who have already taken care of business.  For those of you who are dragging your feet, you have 3 more weeks before your sordid past catches up with you.  If you have any questions, please come see Mrs. Teschler or Mrs. Winslow in the library.

PASTA FOR PENNIES: Sultans – thank you so much for all your donations for Pasta for Pennies.  We raised over $400 with all of your help.  As for the winner, we have Mr. Reilly’s class with $113.

GIRLS WATER POLO: There is a girls’ water polo meeting today at lunch in room 111.  All girls that played water polo this year should attend.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Boys’ Basketball Team for their win against Valhalla and making it to the playoffs.  Frankie Gutierrez led the way with 18 points.

THE PURPLE TENNIS NATION started its 2015 season off this week with a split.  The boys took down Grossmont on Wednesday, but could not get it done against a tough Helix team last night.  Early standouts on Varsity are the Doubles team of Blake Evans and Alex Campbell who swept all 3 of their matches.  In singles, Steven Slead has won 4 of 6 sets.  The journey continues next week with 3 tough matches.

CAP AND GOWNS: Seniors, if you missed yesterday’s Cap & Gown/Announcement Order Day you’ll have to contact the company directly to order.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:  Peer mediators are here and available for you.  This year’s mediators are Brielle Wilkerson, Tara Kyne and Deanna Aguiar.  They can help you resolve conflicts between you and someone that you are having a disagreement with.  They are also available if you just need another student to talk to.  So, if you need help resolving issues between friends, you can grab a request slip in any classroom or in the guidance office.

PEACE COUNCIL: Join Peace Council and make a difference.  Meetings are Wednesdays at lunch in room 105.

BOOK CLUB: Hello Sultan Readers!  If you enjoy reading and would like to share your love of books with other Sultans, join Santana’s Book Club every Friday at lunch in the library.  Bring your lunch and the love of literature.

ZOMBIE CLUB: If you want to survive the zombie apocalypse, come to room S-7 every Wednesday at lunch in Ms. Chandler’s room.  Don’t be left for dead.  We are all infected!

KEY CLUB: Join Key Club to participate in fun community service activities.  We meet Thursdays at lunch in room S2.  Also, members that signed up for our Roadside Pride activity should meet at the Jack in the Box on Magnolia by 67 and Gillespie Field.

CLEAN WATER CLUB: This is a reminder to the Clean Water Club and anyone else who would like to check it out that we meet every Wednesday at lunch in room S8

DISNEY CLUB: You’ve got a friend in us.  Come join Santana’s very own Disney Club.  Have you always wanted to go to Disneyland, but lacked the time or money?  Disney Club fundraises to go to Disneyland, so come join and plan for the 2015 Disneyland trip.  Fundraising starts soon, so join before it’s too late.  They meet Tuesdays at lunch in Mr. Reilly’s room.

SULTAN READERS!  Remember we meet every Friday in the library at lunch to share and discuss our latest reading adventures.  Remember to get to the library ASAP today as we have our guest speaker, Mr. Johnson, joining us to share our mutual love of literature.
