The Illinois chapter of SLA was founded in 1925. The chapter currently has over 500 members.
Chapter activities include networking and professional development in a variety of formats from in person meetings to online webinars, to more the informal but very popular dine-arounds.
The chapter’s primary form of communication is through its web site Illinois.sla.org as well as through its accounts on Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter, and a member to member discussion list. Chapter members are encouraged to share resources, announcements, learning opportunities, position openings, or the exchange professional knowledge that relates to chapter business.
Members achievements are recognized through our Annual Member Awards, travel stipends to the Leadership Summit and the SLA National Conference, as well as through member written articles.
The chapter is lead by an elected board and through the volunteer efforts of several board communities.
In January 2011, the chapter entered into an agreement with Dominican University to have the chapter archives processed by GSLIS students. As the boxes are processed, more information on the history of our chapter will be posted here.
