How to Play Casino Craps

Craps might look like a complicated game but is quite easy to learn how to play and how to place the best bets. This guide focuses more on the online craps games where you do not actually throw the dice. The game principals are the same online and offline so you can still use the information both ways.

Craps Game Play Sequence

Each game round of craps follows an order of play. This order is determined by the outcome on the come out roll but is always the same no matter where you play. The order of play is as follows,

  • Come Out Roll
    • If the come out roll totals 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12 the round ends
    • If the come out roll is a 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 a point is made

  • Additional Rolls
    • If a point is made the dice are rolled again
    • If the next roll is a 7 the round ends
    • If the point is rolled the round ends
    • If neither are rolled the dice are rolled again

What to Bet On

As a new player you should focus on only a couple of bets. These are the best bets you can make so you only need to learn these to get the best out of craps.

  • The Pass Line Bet
To make this bet you place a chip on the area of the table that shows Pass Line. This bet wins if the next roll is a 7 or 11. It loses if a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled and a point is made with any other total. Wins pay 1 to 1.

  • The Pass Line Odds Bet
If a point is made you can make an additional bet that has no house edge. The odds bet is placed below the pass line area on the table. This bet wins if the point is rolled before a seven is rolled. The pays are true to the odds with 4 or 10 paying 2 to 1, 5 or 9 paying 3 to 2 and 6 or 8 paying 6 to 5.

That's all you need to know to get started playing craps. While there are a lot of other betting options you only need the two above to both give you the best chance of winning and the lowest house edge.
