Liverpool Ancient Worlds

About Us

Liverpool Ancient Worlds is the public face of the University of Liverpool’s department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology, one of the leading centres internationally for the study of the ancient world. Our expertise ranges from the archaeology of human evolution, through ancient Egypt and the Near East, to Greece, Rome and Iron Age Europe.

We hold a series of events throughout the year that range from our long-standing Summer School to day courses and short events. All activities give you a chance to discover the latest developments in research as well as to learn about a number of ancient languages, such as:

  • Greek
  • Latin
  • Hieroglyphs
  • Coptic
  • Akkadian
  • Sumerian
  • Sanskrit
  • Hebrew.

Most courses require no prior experience; where experience is needed, this is clearly indicated.
