PUBLIC ABSTRACT

We propose to develop, characterize, and validate mouse models of schwannomatosis with the goal of facilitating the translation of basic research data into new treatments that will benefit patients. Our focus is on tumors and pain that affect patients with schwannomatosis because these are a severe problem faced by patients and their families. The major goals of our research is to devise ways of producing mouse models that reproduce common tumors that arise in patients with schwannomatosis and to examine if these mice suffer from neuropathic pain. The proposed project will contribute to developing a preclinical mouse model of schwannomatosis and to ultimately translate this research into better therapies for patients with schwannomatosis.
