Ooh la la…

Once a year, francophiles gather together for the country’s biggest celebration of French cinema—The French Film Festival. This event is presented by L’Alliance Francaise, an independent nonprofit organisation on an “ambitious mission to spread the French language and culture well beyond the borders of France.” With last year’s 126,000 attendees and 1436 screenings nationwide, it’s safe to say they’re doing a pretty good job.

The Alliance Francaises of Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth have joined forces to prepare the 24th Film Festival. With 43 films to screen, this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss out. (Most likely they won’t be available at your local Hoyts or Oovie machine!) Not sure where to start? Check out our top 5 picks for the event…

1.  Haute Cuisine:

The festival kicks off with an evening of fine foods and wine in the company of Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch, the former President Francois Mitterrand’s private chef whose life inspired the film. Catherine Frot delivers a great performance as a powerful and sassy head chef in this funny feature. Sure beats waiting for next week’s Master Chef. Bon appetite.
