About

Webducate was born from the passion of Tony and Rachael Lowe for all things e-learning.  Following a ten year teaching and e-learning related career in Higher Education Tony Lowe, established Webducate in the spring of 2006. From this point the Webducate team has focused on two core activities:

  1. E-learning tools – Developing and offering free and low cost innovative new e-learning authoring tools aiming to expand the horizons of the possible (e.g. Dragster the drag and drop activity authoring tool and Drawtivity the drawing activity authoring tool).
  2. Tailored development – Working with a wide variety of clients from the academic and commercial worlds to develop exceptional tailored web solutions to fit their e-learning needs (please see our portfolio of example development projects).

Who we are:

As a small dedicated team we pride ourselves on being friendly, professional, responsive and fun to work with…

After pursuing an academic career in Mechanical Engineering Tony discovered his true calling in working on the interface between teaching and technology with his initial forays into web design as a lecturer in the late 1990s. Since this epiphany Tony has pursued a very varied and challenging career in e-learning at the University of Leeds and
subsequently with Webducate. This variety of experiences, including practical face-to-face teaching, developing website systems and resources to support complex academic courses, supporting others in their use of e-learning and introducing new technologies within large organisations, all add to the unique and pragmatic insights that Tony brings to his work.  His enthusiasm for e-learning remains undimmed and he hopes through Webducate to play an influential role in the development of this emerging profession…

Rachael is a very unusual combination of qualified medical practitioner (a physiotherapist) and e-learning specialist. As such she is actively engaged in developing innovative online resources to support the physiotherapy and other health professions including being the founder of Physiopedia and Physiospot.
This unique perspective is also key in her work within Webducate which focuses on the development of resources and appropriate solutions for clients operating within healthcare such as health care organisations, professional bodies, commercial training providers and specialist interest groups.

Our environmental commitment

Not only are we committed to making a difference in e-learning, we also are committed to making a positive impact on the environment. For this reason Webducate donates a minimum of 1% of annual income to environmental causes each year and is certified in doing this by One percent for the planet. We encourage all interested parties to find out more about One percent for the planet and its activities, and support the member organisations.

Additionally we aim to counter our electronic carbon emissions by using and also offering our clients a carbon positive web hosting service.  Our hosting service, in association with Eco Web Hosting, carefully calculates the carbon emissions of the business and ensures
that significantly more than this total is absorbed by trees specifically planted in Nottinghamshire.  Users of our service can be confident that not only are they getting a reliable, highly functional web hosting solution, they are also helping the environment.
