Blues and Fusion dance at Coalescence

This is what I do every Sunday night and 2 Friday nights every month. It is the most healing and the most precious gift that I receive from my friends in the dance community. The healing power of dance makes me shiny and new every week so I can take on life battles. Thank you Sabrina for the dance and Tristan for the video. It is trippy to see myself dance in a video.

We will be pets to our machine overlords

At some point machines will outsmart us and do everything more efficiently that we do. Then they will adopt us as pets and then we will be able to play all day and pester them if our bowl of food was slightly empty. We will be neutered and as a result of selective breeding we will be calm, cute, and have floppy ears with big eyes. We will possibly live longer. They may post videos and pictures of us on the Internet too.

Hyve App tells you what’s going on tonight

A while ago I noticed that Hyve App was mentioned on the VancityBuzz website titled – Hyve helps answer “what’s going on tonight?” – and it was so thrilling to see that one of the startups that we’ve been helping is getting the spotlight in town. The Hyve App promotes local bars and restaurants to the population of college and university students and yes they are a Vancouver mobile startup.

Few years ago Hyve’s founders, Andrew Lackie and James Isaacs, dropped by our office at rmdStudio and pitched their idea to us. At first we didn’t accept their project, because building such a service requires a lot of commitment and at that particular moment we weren’t sure if they were willing to take on the challenge. They proved us wrong by keep following up and not giving up. We agreed to help them as long as they promised to put together their team and take over the future development cycles.

That is an important issue, because a startup must be able to take care of its own technical needs rather than outsourcing them, however the value that we could offer was to provide them the infrastructure they needed using our social networking platform Anahita and mobile development experience and to help them execute their idea to the point of an alpha release.

The idea was to put them in the right general direction while they focused on customer discovery, fund raising, and putting together their team. We told them that we were going to give them a ride close to the finishing line, but they have to go across on their own and continue from there.

I must say that they have done an incredible job. Since our delivery, they have gone through several development cycles on their own and they even have paying customers too. Now here is an inspiring story about a Vancouver startup. Big congratulations to the Hyve founders and team.

Here is an illustrator with mad skills and imagination

The other day I received a nice surprise from my friend Mark Illing. He is a young illustrator and Emily Carr graduate. I received this gift for participating in one of his crowd funding campaigns.

I first met Mark several years ago at JJBean coffee shop in Yaletown and sparked a conversation. If you ever come across him in one of the cool Vancouver coffee shops, take a moment and observe his mad skills and imagination while working on his illustrations.  He has one of the most complex minds that you can imagine and he is extremely talented. You can see more of his work here

Also follow his social media profiles on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook

Blues Dance Mend My Heart

Blues dance, mend my heart tonight
Lift up the soul of this wounded knight
Cherishing the thoughts of a loving past
Haloed with the dancers’ healing light

I wrote that last night before heading out for the Blues dance. I normally don’t write poetry unless something emotionally difficult happens. It is a mental cough.

The relationships that I talked about in my previous post came to an abrupt end this weekend!

I know, I never claimed that my love life was perfect. It’s too bad, because I really thought this was the one, but looks like I have to keep looking and keep trying. Who knows how many more rejections I will be going through before I meet someone who actually likes my configuration and feels comfortable with the unfamiliar me.

Gratitudes to meditation, sleeping, extra strength Advil, and Blues dance. Mentally processing a rejection takes a a bit of time. Thank goodness that Blues Dance was happening this weekend. As usual all my friends were happy to see me and I received lots of love and good dances for the rest of the night.

If you like to try Blues and fusion dancing come to Academie Duello Centre on Sundays from 8:30 PM to 1 AM. It is free for your first time to attend and there are lessons at the beginning of each session. The entrance fee is a sliding scale of $6~$20 whatever you can afford. Think of this as yoga and meditation in motion. You’re welcome!
