LightArt Installation: A Study in Movement
Category: DesignPam
Inspired by the central location of the property and the tangled network of highways in the surrounding metroplex, K2M Design came to LightArt for a sculpted centerpiece for a multistory luxury hotel lobby.
In the following months, LightArt worked with the architects, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure the design was exactly as they imagined. LightArt provided multiple design iterations, with hand-drawn sketches and renderings, and several rounds of material sampling and suggestions. As the vision materialized, designers visited LightArt’s Seattle studio and, together with one of their artisans, constructed a miniature version of the piece within a scale model of the space, tweaking it until it was precisely what the designers wanted.
From there, LightArt translated it to full size and began creating the final version. The very same artisan that worked with designers on the scale model lead the team that built the full-size version.
Once LightArt had formed and hung the piece in their studio, it was then crated and shipped to the job site. Both the artisan and project manager that worked on the sculpture were on-site providing assistance during installation, making sure it went flawlessly.
This is another spectacular example of LightArt’s commitment to ensuring commissioned works exceed all expectations. When working with LightArt and 3form, we more than just a manufacturer, we are a collaborator. Whether purchasing a standard product, or a completely custom piece, we are with you every step of the way from design to installation.

Greenweek 2014
Category: News, SustainabilityPam
We believe that we must be responsible for our products through their entire life cycle, with a diligent focus on the balance of people, planet, and profit.
Our sustainability initiatives:
Zero-waste manufacturing facilities
Carbon neutrality by 2017
Socially and Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing
Transparency Leadership
Employee Engagement
Last week we participated in activities from clearing the parking lot by choosing alternative transportation, retiring a parking space to create another green space for employees, refraining from using any trash cans one day (we hauled our own trash home at the end of the day), and creating short movies to illustrate the life cycle of every day products.
What have you done this week to be more sustainable?

Service at Sales Conference
Category: News, PhilanthropyPam
Learning about 3form materials and solutions is kind of a big deal this time of year for our sales reps.
As is tradition, our annual national sales conference attendees participate in a service project. This year the service project encompassed creating kits for various groups in need. This year we chose to give back to the military because many of our sales force are or have families in the military. Additional projects were done to support women and children in areas related our Full Circle communities and sick children at a local hospital in Utah.
The results of this activity yielded big stacks of items to be donated as well as hearts that were warmed by the sheer joy of giving.
Here's what we accomplished: 1000 School kits for students in the Philippines 370 Newborn kits for moms and babies in Zimbabwe 60 kits for active military men and women - additional names were given to some of our representatives for them to send care packages individually 12 fleece blankets for sick children at Primary Children’s Hospital

Bold Exterior Application in SoCal
Category: Design, TechnologyPam
The Background
Service recently began in the San Bernardino valley on the first bus rapid transit system in the county. Omnitrans, a public transportation agency, sought Gruen Associates working under Parsons Transportation Group to design and develop stations along the Green Line for the San Bernardino Express (sbX), which connects diverse communities in two cities to centers of commerce, services, and local universities.
The Challenge
Known as an architecture firm that transforms communities, Gruen Associates accepted the challenge. At the most basic level, the stops needed to provide shelter from the strong winds and the California sun. But the designers also wanted to tie the communities together and create a timeless design the residents could be proud of for decades. Gruen worked with Omnitrans and local user groups to develop a design that connects communities metaphorically as well as physically. Designers envisioned shelters that would create a sense of movement while referencing the shapes of the surrounding San Bernardino Mountains with undulating shapes and angles of the shelter canopies.
After realizing the complex angles and compound curves would not be viable in glass, the firm sought a new material and a vendor. On a tight deadline for installation, Gruen reached out to 3form for a strong, formable material that was weather resistant. The complexity of the angles on the canopies required customization and accuracy.
The Solution
Within weeks of obtaining Gruen’s drawings, 3form built 34 custom molds to fit the complex angles on all 16 transit canopies, then the 3form fabrication team extruded 400 custom-sized Koda XT panels, molded custom aluminum channels around each piece to achieve the desired aesthetic and shipped off the panels to meet the tight installation timeline. The new bus stops touch the lives of thousands and create a striking aesthetic throughout the valley. ”We knew that 3form was the right company for this job,” said Jill Wagner, Associate Partner at Gruen Associates. “Working with 3form enhanced the design process and the end result realizes our vision in a way that added value to the project.”

NeoCon 2014
Category: Design, NewsPam
We had a blast at NeoCon this year and walked away with two awards!
Our Pattern+ system took Silver for the category of Architectural & Decorative Glass. This customization system provides designers with control and flexibility over scale, color and pattern through multiple material platforms from Infinite Glass to Varia Ecoresin®.
Full Circle designs from Ndem, Senegal garnered a Silver award in the NeoCon Surface & Materials category based mostly on the philanthropic story of Full Circle. The dynamic wire patterns are called Dance and Pogo. Rhythmic fabric chains form Tribe, a fresh spin-off of the award-winning Ensign pattern.
