About

The European Association of Geochemistry, EAG, was officially established in 1985 with the goal of promoting geochemistry internationally and in particular providing a forum for the presentation of geochemistry, exchange of ideas, publications and recognition of scientific excellence.

The EAG is a non-profit organization registered in France and its headquarters are located in Paris, France.

EAG Activities

The EAG has established several core activities to support geochemistry internationally:

  • The EAG organizes the Goldschmidt conference on odd years in Europe, in partnership with the Geochemical Society. The Goldschmidt conference is designed as the primary meeting worldwide for the presentation and exchange of scientific ideas in geochemistry.
  • The EAG, along with several other geochemically-relevant organizations communicates through and participates in the production of the international journal Elements.
  • The EAG publishes Geochemical Perspectives, entirely run and edited by and for the geochemical community. Each issue presents a single article with an in-depth view on the past, present and future of a field of geochemistry, seen through the eyes of a highly respected member of our community.
  • The EAG publishes Geochemical Perspectives Letters, a new internationally peer-reviewed journal that publishes short, highest-quality articles spanning geochemical sciences. This journal is entirely run and edited by and for the geochemical community.
  • The EAG is affiliated with the journal Chemical Geology, published by Elsevier.
  • The EAG recognizes scientific excellence through several awards.
  • The EAG sponsors short courses and small conferences.
  • The EAG sponsors students wishing to attend short courses and conferences in Europe, and early career scientists based in Europe wishing to attend conferences outside of Europe.
  • The EAG has established a Distinguished Lecture Program focusing on Central and Eastern Europe, as well as an Outreach Program with the Geochemical Society.
  • The EAG issues press releases about inspirational and socially important topics in geochemistry.
  • The EAG partners with several societies to further promote geochemistry internationally.
  • Finally, through the EAG website, monthly newsletters (including job opportunities), the EAG Blog and social media (Facebook, Twitter), the EAG supports an expanding web-based presence providing support and networking for geochemists.

EAG Governance

The EAG is run by a Council made of seven officer-councillors and nine to eleven councillors.
The officer-councillors include the President, Vice-President, Past-President, Treasurer, Secretary and two Goldschmidt Officers.

The Council is chaired by the President. The Presidential cycle is of six years: two as Vice-President, two as President and two as Past-President.

The EAG also counts nine committees (two of which are shared with the Geochemical Society). Each Committee Chair is a member of the EAG Council.

The society’s operations are carried out by a Business Office Manager, Marie-Aude Hulshoff, based in the Netherlands.
